Job Description Summary
The Department of Geosciences at Auburn University at Auburn University seeks an Assistant Professor in Paleobiology (tenure track) (65% research, 30% teaching, 2.5% outreach, and 2.5% service). The successful candidate will apply excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to: (1) Develop and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program involving interdisciplinary collaboration with a research focus on fossils, rocks, and extant biological materials, making use of analytical equipment including but not limited to osteohistological thin-sectioning tools, advanced microscopy and imaging systems, geochemical analyses using analytical instruments such as IRMS, TIMS, MC- ICP-MS, ICP- OES, ICP-MS, and LA- ICP-MS, multivariate statistical analysis and advanced data analyses techniques in the R programming language (including but not limited to: geometric morphometrics, functional diversity, isotopic analysis, biostratigraphy, elemental analysis, etc). (2) Teach undergraduate courses in paleobiology and Earth natural history, graduate courses in paleoclimatology, directed study research courses, and related courses as assigned. Supervise graduate students, undergraduate students, and Postdoctoral Fellows in their research programs/projects. (3) Perform outreach and service duties, including service to the Auburn University Museum of Natural History on the curation and cataloguing of the fossil collections.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a PhD in Evolutionary Biology or related field at time employment begins.
  • Candidate must be eligible to work at the time employment begins and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
  • Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research resulting in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Candidates must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
