Assistant Professor in Sport and Recreation Management

Position Description

The Department of Counseling, Recreation and School Psychology (CRSP) at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Sport and Recreation Management, to commence in the Fall semester of 2025.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include an earned Doctorate in Sport Management or closely related field.

Successful candidates should demonstrate ability and further potential to conduct impactful and high-quality research. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of published research in top journals. Applications are also encouraged from those with a record of external funding or potential for securing external funding.

Candidates should have the capacity to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, and the ability to mentor graduate students. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated effectiveness in instruction in a variety of modalities, including in-person and fully online courses at an institution of higher education.

Candidates will preferably have industry relationships and demonstrated professional involvement.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include establishing and sustaining a research and scholarship program by leading and executing research projects, publishing manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, presenting research at conferences, seeking external funding to support research activities, and building collaborative research partnerships that contribute to FIU's Top 50 ranking within their discipline. Faculty in the sport and recreation management program at FIU teach at the undergraduate and graduate level in various delivery modalities, advise and mentor graduate students, and are expected to engage in service activities at the department, institutional and professional levels. Tenured and tenure-track faculty in the department typically have 45% research, 45% teaching, and 10% annual service load.

About the Sport and Recreation Management Program

The Sport and Recreation Management Program is a vibrant program with a healthy and growing number of applicants and strong enrollment. The program is ideally located in South Florida, home to many professional sports teams, such as the Miami Heat (NBA), Miami Dolphins (NFL), Miami Marlins (MLB), Inter Miami CF (MLS), and the Florida Panthers (NHL). Miami hosts major sports events such as the Super Bowl, Miami Open (tennis), and Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix. The NCAA athletic programs in Florida are strong; prospective faculty will have the opportunity to collaborate with FIU Athletics.
