As a Research Fellow of Formulation and Materials Development is a senior level technical role within our organization, dedicated to advancing the field of ophthalmic materials and enhancing the performance and comfort of contact lenses. This position involves rigorous scientific research, innovative formulation development, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to bring new contact lens technologies from concept to market. This role is in Johns Creek, GA and a typical day will include:

  • Setting the strategic vision, goals, and standards for the CL materials related scientific work, ensuring the quality and integrity of the research outputs.
  • Research and Development: Conduct cutting-edge research on new materials and technologies for contact lenses, aiming to improve their biocompatibility, durability, and optical performance.
  • Formulation Development: Design and optimize formulations for contact lens materials, ensuring they meet predefined specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Develop new materials based on in-depth understanding in both material technology and production process.
  • Work closely with internal production or external vendors to scale-up new products.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams including chemists, engineers, optical design, quality and regulatory specialists to drive projects forward.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of structure-property-process relationship in polymers, specifically the relationship between molecular architecture and morphology and bulk properties.
  • Develops an external network of research partners and collaborators to complement internal competencies in the above-mentioned research areas. Actively monitors patent and scientific literature for significant technical developments relevant to eye care products.
  • Uses deep technical/scientific knowledge to advise and develop strategies which significantly contribute to organizational objectives.

What You'll Bring to Alcon:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 10 Years of Relevant Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Material Sciences, Organic Chemistry or related field is required. 15+ years of post-graduated experience in Ophthalmic industry is highly preferred.
  • Prior small group management experience is preferred
