Assistant Professor

Position Summary
The Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice, in collaboration with the Institute for Social Science Research at The University of Alabama, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2025.

Detailed Position Information
This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment with a competitive startup package. Although the area of research is open, we prefer candidates who are quantitative scholars with strong statistical expertise. We also prefer candidates who have an active and independent research program and are highly invested in securing extramural funding. The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment in the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice and The University of Alabama's Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR), emphasizing interdisciplinary research and collaboration. This role will provide a substantially reduced teaching load, thereby providing more time for research activities. The selected candidate must have earned a Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related social-behavioral field by the time of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate research productivity and a commitment to advancing the field of social sciences.

The Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice offers a supportive environment for research, including competitive teaching loads, opportunities for pre-tenure research leave, and generous funding for research activities. Our bachelor's and master's degree programs are thriving, and we are launching a doctoral program in Fall 2025. For additional information about our department, please visit our website at http://cj.ua.edu. The Institute for Social Science Research is an interdisciplinary unit of the College of Arts and Sciences with the broad mission to promote and conduct social science research at the University. Being part of ISSR provides a unique advantage, as it promotes and conducts impactful social science research across disciplines. Information on ISSR is available at http://issr.ua.edu/.
