The Section of Anatomic Pathology in the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences and Animal Health Diagnostic Center in the College of Veterinary Medicine, at Cornell University invites qualified candidates to apply for a fellowship position in forensic veterinary pathology. This position is designed to help junior pathologists develop expertise in forensic veterinary pathology, work closely with a mentor in the area of specialization to gain diagnostic and research experience, while also participating in the general diagnostic service and teaching veterinary students and residents. The successful fellow will be trained to be eligible for veterinaryforensicpathology certification.

Responsibilities for this position consist of specialty diagnostic service (50%), specialty research (10%), general diagnostic service (30%), and resident training (10%).

The Anatomic Pathology caseload at Cornell University includes over 12,000 surgical biopsies and nearly 2,000 necropsies per year. Current forensic necropsy case load is greater than 150 per year. Cases include a wide variety of species from the Cornell University Hospital for Animals and referring veterinarians from around the world. Cornell University is one of the only two approved veterinary forensic pathology training programs.

This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.

Qualifications: The applicant must possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent) from an AVMA-accredited or equivalent institution. Completion of a formal residency training program in Anatomic Pathology is also required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this position.

Preferred Qualifications: Board certified individuals (ACVP) will be given preference, but board-eligible pathologists are also encouraged to apply. Applicants should have demonstrated a strong interest in forensic pathology.

The salary range for this position is up to $65,000 for a first-year fellow without ACVP board certification; up to $75,000 with ACVP board certification.

Pay Range:

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.

  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.

  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)

  • Unique applicable skills.
