Assistant/Associate Professor Position in Computer and Information Science UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS DARTMOUTH The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is seeking applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Department of Computer and Information Science (https://www.umassd.edu/engineering/cis/). Positions are available starting in either January 2025 or September 2025. We are particularly interested in candidates specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) and software engineering. The department has growing expertise and a strong interdisciplinary focus on various aspects of robust and secure AI, mission-critical software, and distributed software engineering. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, natural language processing, cybersecurity, computer vision, robotic process automation, multi-agent systems, formal methods, automated software testing, knowledge-based software engineering, and blockchain technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to implement evidence-based pedagogy in both undergraduate and graduate computer science education. Additionally, the candidate should establish a robust independent research program and actively promote interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers at our Cybersecurity Center (https://www.umassd.edu/cybersecurity-center/) and the Center for Scientific Computing and Data Science Research (https://www.cscdr.umassd.edu/). The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is located in the beautiful ocean side community of Dartmouth, about an hour south of Boston, half-hour east of Providence, and half-hour west of Cape Cod. It offers a world-class education to more than 9,300 undergraduate and graduate students each year in over 40 undergraduate and 23 graduate programs offered by the College of Engineering, College of Nursing, Charlton College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Visual and Performing Arts, School of Law and School for Marine Science and Technology. The Computer and Information Science (CIS) Department currently has 15 full-time faculty members. The department offers BS and MS programs in Computer Science, a joint program with the Department of Mathematics in Data Science, and a PhD program in Engineering & Applied Science (EAS) with a Computer Science and Information Science (CSIS) option. In recent years, Computer Science faculty have received multiple external research grants from the NSF, NIH, ONR, Department of the Army, and corporations, including an NSF CAREER award and an NIH R01 award. Duties The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program; implement evidence-based teaching and learning approaches that ensure the academic success of a diverse population of students; advise undergraduate and graduate (MS & PhD) students; contribute to university and professional service; foster interdisciplinary collaborations; and engage in college and university diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have a doctorate in Computer Science, or a closely related field, at the time of appointment, and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly research as well as diversity, equity and inclusion. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis. Preferred Qualifications We are seeking strong candidates with demonstrated research experience in artificial intelligence and software engineering, and teaching experience in undergraduate computer science. Postdoctoral research experience is highly desirable. We especially encourage applications from scholars historically underrepresented in science, mathematics, and engineering, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
