We're looking for a Electro-Mechanical Quality Inspector to join our Day & Zimmermann Projects team on site at our solar construction project in Union Springs, AL.

The Electrical/Mechanical QC Inspector performs independent field inspections and quality surveillance of electrical/mechanical construction, testing, and turnover activities. The inspector verifies that work conforms to approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer instructions, project procedures, inspection and test plans, contractual requirements, and applicable electrical codes and standards.

Reporting directly to the Site Quality Manager, the inspector documents objective evidence of compliance, identifies deficiencies before work is concealed or accepted, witnesses required tests, and verifies completed corrective actions. The role coordinates closely with construction, engineering, testing personnel, subcontractors, and client representatives while maintaining independent inspection judgment.

The Big Picture - Top Skills You Should Possess:

  • Inspect electrical/mechanical work before concealment, energization, or turnover. Verify conduit, cable tray, supports, grounding and bonding, cable installation, terminations, equipment setting, labeling, and related work against approved drawings, specifications, installation instructions, inspection plans, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Witness required electrical/mechanical tests and verify that approved procedures, calibrated equipment, and acceptance criteria are followed. Review results for continuity, insulation resistance, high potential or VLF testing when applicable, torque, grounding resistance, phase rotation, functional checks, and other project-required tests.
  • Complete daily inspection reports, checklists, test records, punch-list items, and inspection status updates. Verify material identification, redlines, traceability records, equipment data, and turnover documentation are accurate, legible, complete, and linked to the inspected work.
  • Identify and document work that does not meet approved requirements. Notify responsible supervision and the Site Quality Manager, support NCR or deficiency processing, verify approved repair or rework, and provide objective evidence before closure or acceptance.
  • Review inspection and test plans, work packages, hold points, witness points, drawings, specifications, and readiness conditions. Coordinate inspection access and timing with construction, engineering, testing personnel, subcontractors, client representatives, and other authorized inspectors.
  • Report inspection status, recurring deficiencies, emerging risks, and incomplete records to the Site Quality Manager. Participate in quality meetings, lessons learned, focused surveillances, and assigned improvement activities while maintaining independent and objective inspection decisions.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Inspect the work objectively and do not accept work based solely on schedule pressure, verbal assurance, or incomplete documentation.

  • Identify inspection and test status clearly and prevent unverified work from being concealed, energized, or included in turnover records without required acceptance.

  • Notify the Site Quality Manager promptly of significant deficiencies, repeated noncompliance, disputed acceptance criteria, or conditions that may warrant work suspension or formal escalation.

  • Verify corrective actions at the work location and document the evidence used to close each finding.

  • Protect controlled information and maintain accurate, retrievable quality records throughout the project lifecycle.

What You Need To Bring To The Table:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a combination of electrical trade, construction, testing, or inspection experience sufficient to perform the assigned work independently.
  • Company and project electrical inspector qualification or documented approval before performing independent acceptance inspections.

  • A minimum of five years of quality electrical/mechanical inspection experience in industrial, utility, renewable energy, or comparable construction environments.

  • Demonstrated understanding of electrical specifications, contract requirements, approved drawings, manufacturer instructions, inspection and testing requirements, and applicable electrical codes and standards, including NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety requirements, ANSI NETA practices when contractually applicable, and project-specific requirements.

  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment layouts, conduit and cable tray drawings, grounding plans, specifications, data sheets, and approved work packages.

  • Experience completing inspection reports, checklists, test records, punch lists, deficiency reports, and nonconformance documentation with clear objective evidence.

  • Ability to communicate findings promptly and professionally and to distinguish acceptable work, incomplete work, and work requiring correction or engineering disposition.

  • Basic proficiency with electronic document control, quality management systems, spreadsheets, email, and field reporting tools.

  • Experience in receiving inspection verification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, electrical apprenticeship completion, or equivalent formal training in electrical systems, construction technology, engineering technology, or quality.
  • Journeyman or master electrician credential, ICC electrical inspector certification, NFPA electrical safety certification, OSHA 30-hour construction training, or a comparable electrical quality credential.

  • Quality electrical inspection experience on large-scale utility solar projects.

  • Experience inspecting medium-voltage and low-voltage systems, grounding systems, cable installations, terminations, electrical equipment, and associated acceptance testing.

  • Experience working with owner representatives, third-party inspectors, testing agencies, suppliers, and subcontractor quality personnel.
