| About the University of Georgia |
Chartered by the state of Georgia in 1785, the University of Georgia is the birthplace of public higher education in America and is the state's flagship university
(https://www.uga.edu/). The proof is in our more than 240 years of academic and professional achievements and our continual commitment to higher education.
UGA is currently ranked among the top 20 public universities in U.S. News & World Report. The University's main campus is located in Athens, approximately 65 miles northeast of Atlanta, with extended campuses in Atlanta, Griffin, Gwinnett, and Tifton.
UGA employs approximately 3,100 faculty and more than 7,700 full-time staff. The University's enrollment exceeds 41,000 students including over 31,000 undergraduates and over 10,000 graduate and professional students. Academic programs reside in 19 schools and colleges, including our newly established School of Medicine. |
| About the College/Unit/Department |
The
UGA College of Engineering currently enrolls over 3,000 engineering majors and has 125 full-time engineering faculty across 15 degree programs. The College also jointly administers the School of Computing in collaboration with the
UGA Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, an academic unit that comprises over 1,700 computer science majors and 44 full-time faculty. Beginning in January 2027, the College of Engineering will comprise five interdisciplinary schools: the School of Computing, the School of Chemical, Materials, and Biomedical Engineering; the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering; the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering; and the School of Mechanical and Agricultural Engineering.
Faculty hired as part of this initiative will join a rapidly growing College of Engineering that combines interdisciplinary research and scholarship with excellent instruction and service.
Significant investments in infrastructure have resulted in an expansion of laboratory facilities for research and scholarship and new classrooms and instructional labs. College of Engineering faculty have space in two major capital projects on campus to create interdisciplinary research facilities. Our main instructional facility, Driftmier Engineering Center, has also undergone a complete renovation to create flexible classrooms that enable a range of teaching modalities and the incorporation of interdisciplinary instructional labs. The common instructional facilities also foster collaboration by allowing faculty, staff, and students to interact and collaborate in a single facility. |
