The Department of Integrative Humanities and Social Sciences houses six majors with over 500 students in Africana Studies, Arts Studies, International Studies, Self-Design, Science, Technology, and Society, and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. IHSS also offers 7 undergraduate minors, 3 undergraduate dual-degree honors programs, and 1 graduate program. IHSS has core faculty and faculty directors who work in partnership with departments from our college and others to deliver the courses in each program. IHSS actively partners with departments and programs on campus and in the Triangle to host events including speakers and conferences in support of the programs several times during the school year. The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies is committed to offering a high-quality undergraduate Philosophy curriculum, including a major and minor in Philosophy. PRS is also committed to offering a high-quality undergraduate Religious Studies curriculum, including a major and a minor in Religious Studies, that provides students an extended opportunity to examine the multiple interpretations of the category "religion" - including religion as a social construction, as an element of psychological development, as a branch of metaphysics, and as a constellation of ritual practices - and the ways in which religious traditions have played a central role in human culture and history; developing the analytical abilities and expressive powers of our students.

PRS provides educational and research opportunities at the graduate level; and conducts research, teaching, and scholarship that advances knowledge and understanding in the disciplines of Philosophy and Religious Studies.

North Carolina State University welcomes applications for an appointment as a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in Hinduism. The faculty position will be housed in the Department of Integrative Humanities and Social Sciences ( IHSS), with a joint appointment in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies ( PRS).

The appointment in IHSS will be based in one of the following programs: International Studies; Science, Technology and Society; Arts Studies; or Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. A research focus on modern and/or contemporary periods preferred. Training in pre-modern languages and cultures welcome. The standard teaching load will be four courses per academic year, with two each in IHSS and PRS. Other responsibilities include research, publication, and service.

Other duties as assigned by the Department Head.

Successfully defended a PhD in Religious Studies or a closely related field by May 2027. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
