The BSW generalist social work curriculum prepares students for entry-level social work practice, leadership, and the delivery and evaluation of health and human services, as well as future graduate study. The MSW curriculum prepares students for advanced generalist practice, including leadership in planning, developing, managing, and evaluating culturally relevant services for individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. NC State is committed to excellence in research, scholarship, teaching, and community extension and engagement.
The School of Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education ( CSWE). CSWE's Commission on Accreditation is the sole body authorized to accredit BSW and MSW programs in the United States.

Essential Job Duties
The School of Social Work invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions.

Tenure-track and tenured faculty are expected to develop and sustain a strong record of research and scholarship, excel in teaching and advising, engage in community outreach and partnership, and provide service to school, college, university, and profession.

We seek candidates with demonstrated expertise in social work theory, practice, research, policy, and a commitment to preparing the next generation of social work professionals.

Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the School's Bachelor of Social Work ( BSW) program and/or Masters of Social Work ( MSW) program.

The typical teaching load is two courses per semester.
Other Responsibilities
Other duties as assigned by the Head of the School of Social Work.
Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D. in social work or a closely related field, conferred prior to the time of application, or ABD status with dissertation scheduled at the time of application. Conferral of doctoral degree by start date.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work and at least 2 years of post-master's degree social work practice experience.
  • Demonstrated potential for research and scholarship, teaching and advising, and extension and engagement activities, as NC State is a land-grant university that highly values extension and engagement.
  • Clear research agenda and the ability to carry out an original research agenda that advances the field of social work.
  • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and advising.
  • Excellent communication skills and collegiality.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical,practice, research, and teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD. in social work or a closely related field, conferred prior to the time of application.
  • Expertise in one or more of these specialty areas:



  1. public health social work
  2. policy advocacy
  3. behavioral health workforce
  4. substance use disorders
  5. gerontology
  6. community organization or community-based participatory research
  7. environmental justice and/or disaster social work
  8. digital/online social work
  9. criminal justice
  10. school social work
  11. international/global social work
  12. rural social work
  13. advanced clinical practice


  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Experience in developing programs, curricula, and course content, including for online courses.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience across the curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Experience with collaboration and intercultural communication.
  • Demonstrated potential for leading groups focused on social work education.
  • Experience teaching across various formats (in person, hybrid, online).
  • Demonstrated potential for obtaining external funding to support research and scholarship.
