Job Summary

Hotel Nikko San Francisco is looking for a Part-Time Banquet House Person. They will be responsible for setting up and breaking down banquet rooms per guest request. Service includes but not limited to room sets, maintenance, box handling, assisting with problems, and providing information.

Job Duties and Responsibilities



  • Set up meeting and banquet rooms following written /verbal instructions and diagrams.
  • Transport all required equipment, including but not limited to tables, chairs, glassware and boxes between storage area and appropriate meeting and banquet room.
  • Be present at meeting and banquet rooms before and during breaks of meetings or parties to provide any requested service.
  • Break down meeting and banquet rooms at the end of function.
  • Transport all supplies, including but not limited to tables, chairs and boxes to appropriate storage or cleaning facility at the end of function.
  • Ensure that all rooms are cleaned following hotel standards and procedures.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of workstation. Ensure work area meets standards set at completion of work shift including but not limited to replenishing silverware and linen.
  • Inspect all equipment. Report any problems to appropriate personnel. Follow up to ensure correction of problem.
  • Interact with supervisors, guests, and co-workers in a helpful and courteous manner.
  • Comply with supervisor's directions to ensure guest and staff satisfaction.
  • Attending to guest requests or complaints when possible and appropriate; when inappropriate inform supervisor or appropriate person of request and follow up to ensure it was resolved.
  • Secure banquets equipment before, during and after function. May be required to lock or unlock rooms as guests' request. May be required to sign keys in and out.
  • Perform duties as assigned.
  • Ability to handle equipment including, but not limited to china and glassware carefully to avoid breakage or damage.
  • Participate in and attend all departmental and hotel-wide meetings.
  • Ability to understand and comply with safety precautions in the use of chemicals.


Required Qualifications



  • Functional ability to communicate verbally and in writing to take food orders and ensure proper food is being served.
  • All candidates must be fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digits numbers. Ability to perform mathematical operations with units of measure including, but not limited to dollars and cents.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.


Preferred Qualifications



  • One to two years of housekeeping, banquets, or other type of room setup experience in first class food service establishment.
  • Knowledge and ability to set up and breakdown meetings and banquet rooms.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain state and federal health code standards.


Work Conditions



  • Most tasks are performed as part of a team with a moderate amount of supervision.
  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. The temperature is moderate and controlled by the hotel environmental systems.
  • Work tasks are performed walking, standing, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, and grasping.
  • Standing and walking occurs 90% of the time. Stationary standing may occur while arranging tables. Walking occurs repetitively through rooms and halls of the hotel in the process of moving between workstations and storage facility.
  • Work tasks require the ability to lift, push, pull and carry more than 75 pounds 70% of the time. Some of these activities include transporting tables, chairs, utensils, and glasses.
  • Reaching occurs continuously throughout the work shift. Activities occur both above and below shoulder level. Reaching above the shoulder level includes but is not limited to re-stocking and removing items from storage shelf and retrieving tables from transportation cart. Reaching below the shoulder level includes but is not limited to retrieving items from the floor.
  • Crouching and kneeling occurs occasionally.
  • Bending and stooping occurs frequently in setting up tables and dance floors.
  • Twisting and turning occur frequently in many aspects of the job, involving activities such as retrieving items from storage area to loading carts.
  • Grasping occurs continuously throughout the work shift.
  • Talking and hearing occurs continuously in the process of communicating with guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near, color vision, and depth perception.
  • Most work tasks are performed on carpeted areas, while others are performed on tiled or other hard surfaces.
  • Some work tasks are performed with the use of machinery and office equipment.
  • Some work tasks require employees to encounter hazardous chemicals. Employees should use precautions such as rubber gloves.
