North Star Bank is looking for a talented and highly motivated Assistant Vice President Deposit Operations to join our team. The AVP Deposit Operations is a subject matter expert within deposit operations. Communicates with all pertinent parties on situations requiring escalation. Ensures a coordinated and consistent approach to risk management operations. Provides oversight into a variety of moderate and complex tasks and projects with regulatory, monetary, or potential reputational risks. Possesses the ability to step in and cover most departmental duties. Partners with the VP Operations on Fiserv technology projects and oversight/review of current documented operations procedures. Adheres to digital filing practices and retention standards. Enforces bank policies and risk mitigation strategies, applicable banking laws, rules, and regulations.

Major Accountabilities:
  • Leverages expertise and product knowledge to achieve better results and to ensure efficient and accurate processing.
  • Assists VP Operations with the coordination and evaluation of department which includes planning, directing work, coaching team members, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Partners with VP Operations on Fiserv technology implementations, projects, and deposit operations initiatives.
  • Partner with VP Operations to review, recommend, and implement operational improvements that increase efficiency, strengthen controls, improve documentation, and enhance internal and external customer experience.
  • Reviews, recommends, and implements new methods or workflows to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of daily operations.
  • Aids in the prevention and reduction of losses through various bank supported digital payment channels
  • Applies hands-on experience in processing and resolution of bank services not limited to ACH, wires, debit/ATM cards, checks, exception item handling, holds on accounts or specific items, remote and mobile deposits, account-servicing activities for DDA, SAV, and CDs, and digital payment channels
  • Partners with deposit operations specialists on the following tasks and related processes: EIM (stop payments and non-posted items), CD renewal amendments, garnishments and levies, annual unclaimed property filing, ACH and check fraud, and general ledger reconciliation activities.
  • Prepares procedures for processing of ACH and check fraud claims based on NCP and AAP certifications.
  • Supports VP Operations with the implementation of compliance and regulatory changes affecting Deposit Operations processes and procedures.

Certifications Requested: Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) and National Check Professional (NCP).

This is not a remote position and is an onsite role base out of our White Bear Lake location. Education and Special Requirements:
  • Professional knowledge generally acquired through completing Associates and/or Bachelor's Degree
  • Bank operations and retail banking experience gained over 6-8 years with progressive increased responsibility.
  • ECCHO Rules for Check Education and Compliance
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and business acumen in bank operations: ACH, wires, check processing, EIM (exception item processing), debit cards/ATM, digital payment channels, deposit account servicing, general ledger reconciliation.
  • Experience working on a core banking system. Fiserv Premier core is beneficial.
  • Experience working with Reg E disputes and fraud cases.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Audit and examination experience in a bank environment is beneficial.

The base pay for this position starts at $78,000. This beginning base salary represents a good faith and reasonable estimate of the minimum base range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications more than the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply, and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, and other relevant business considerations.
