Do you love working with young children and enjoy creating fun, active learning experiences? Are you energetic, patient, and great at making children feel comfortable and excited to try new things?

The YMCA of the North Shore is looking for a Morning Gymnastics Instructor to lead gymnastics classes primarily for our preschool-aged participants. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young children and wants to help them build confidence, coordination, and a love of movement in a safe and welcoming environment.

This position is especially well-suited for college students interested in building a career working with children, including those studying Early Childhood Education, Education, Psychology, Recreation, or a related field.


What You'll Do

  • Lead engaging, age-appropriate morning gymnastics classes for preschool-aged children.
  • Create a warm, inviting, and positive environment where children feel safe, supported, and excited to participate.
  • Introduce young children to basic gymnastics, movement, coordination, balance, and body awareness through fun activities and age-appropriate instruction.
  • Use positive guidance and encouragement to help children build confidence and try new skills.
  • Demonstrate and assist with gymnastics activities while prioritizing participant safety.
  • Build positive relationships with children and families and provide a welcoming experience from the moment they enter the gym.
  • Follow YMCA curriculum and program expectations while adapting activities to meet the needs of individual participants.
  • Set up and maintain a safe, clean, and organized gymnastics environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other gymnastics staff to create a consistent and supportive program experience.


What We're Looking For

  • A genuine love of working with young children.
  • Previous experience working with preschool-aged children is preferred.
  • Experience participating in gymnastics, dance, cheer, or another movement-based activity is a plus.
  • Energetic, patient, enthusiastic, and comfortable leading groups of young children.
  • Strong communication and positive behavior guidance skills.
  • Ability to create an inviting and inclusive environment where every child feels welcome.
  • Ability to safely demonstrate and assist with age-appropriate gymnastics activities.
  • Dependable, responsible, and willing to learn.
  • College students interested in a future career working with children are encouraged to apply!

Qualifications
Qualifications

  • Must be available in the mornings: Monday- Friday, 8:30 am-12:30 pm
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • Must have teaching experience and work well with kids



ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS



  • Must be able to see and hear an emergency
  • Ability to lift equipment and maneuver equipment and weight up to 55 lbs or that of a small to average size child
  • Must be able to navigate the uneven surfaces on the gym floor
