  • Summary of Position:
    Responsible for administering the operation of the Tonka Swim School within Minnetonka Aquatics in accordance with the guidelines set forth by Minnetonka Community Education and under the direction of the Director of Aquatics. This includes, but is not limited to, program scheduling, coordinating the effective and efficient execution of daily program operations, overseeing staff development, updating and creating new programs and curriculum through collaboration with participants, staff, and Minnetonka Community Education leadership team.

    Job Responsibilities:

    1. Operations Management: Serve as onsite supervisor to ensure that staff are safely and effectively conducting programming. Unlock facilities, fill in for absent employees, respond to issues and emergencies, promote professionalism and positive representation of Minnetonka Community Education and Tonka Swim School.
    2. Customer Service and Communication:Communicate with participant families, accommodate requests, assist with registration, answer questions, promote programs, provide insight on participant progress and next steps.
    3. Management and Staff: Hire, train, supervise, and consistently evaluate employees; provide feedback and professional development opportunities. Execute regular training (including in-water) to promote growth and development amongst staff.
    4. Continually update and improve curriculum based on personal observation of the program and feedback from participants.
    5. Plan class schedules and create classes online for registration according to Minnetonka Community Education guidelines. Coordinate with Minnetonka Community Education staff and participants on registration days, monitor waitlists, schedule staff appropriately based on enrollment numbers. Monitor program success and change offerings and schedules based on demand.
    6. Coordinate with the Director of Aquatics and other aquatics staff to ensure proper utilization of facility and collaboration with other programs.
    7. Collaborate with clerical staff to ensure that all information on the program website is accurate and up to date. Instruct clerical staff in management of billing inquiries and ensure chart of accounts is accurate.
    8. Collaborate with Aquatics, MCE, and custodial staff to keep facilities operational, safe, clean, and updated. Purchase and maintain equipment. Conduct weekly checks to ensure lifesaving equipment is operational and OSHA compliant.
    9. Conduct payroll on a biweekly basis. Collaborate with Human Resources and Payroll departments to update employee files.
    10. Maintain American Red Cross Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor certifications.
    11. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

    Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
    2. Experience in Aquatics as an instructor, coach, or administrator for at least 2 years.
    3. American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Deep Water Certification (required)
    4. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification (required, or able to obtain within 90 days)
    5. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (preferred)
    6. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Teacher Certification (preferred)
    7. Certified Pool Operator License (preferred)
    8. Strong organizational skills.
    9. Demonstrated leadership and public relations skills.
    10. Evidence of passion for working with children.
    11. Evidence of positive interpersonal skills; ability to relate to both children and adults.
    12. Ability to work under minimal supervision.
    13. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
    14. Proven record of punctuality and responsibility.
    15. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to lead a team to respond to emergencies effectively, efficiently, and to the American Red Cross standard.
    16. Strong understanding of water safety and swim instruction fundamentals, specifically for children.
    17. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

    Assignment Details:
    Full-time, full-year assignment with variable hours, including evenings and weekends.
    Salary range is $50,000-$60,000, with actual placement depending on experience and qualifications.
