JOB SUMMARY | Salary Range: $34.00 -$36.00 Primary customers include residential homeowners, commercial businesses, agricultural operations, and various industrial accounts. This position may require extended hours during peak seasons and emergency service situations. Set schedule with on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. The position is primarily local; however, candidates must be able to adjust to changes in schedules as operational needs arise. Under the supervision of the Site Manager, the Propane Service Technician is responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of propane tanks, gas lines, regulators, and propane-powered equipment. This position ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while delivering exceptional customer service. Ultimately responsible for the safe handling and servicing of liquefied petroleum gas (LP) systems at customer locations. This position reports to the Site Manager. |
Essential Functions | Essential Function | 1. Safely install, inspect, maintain, and repair propane tanks, piping systems, regulators, valves, and related equipment. 2. Perform leak checks, pressure tests, and system inspections in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. 3. Diagnose and troubleshoot propane system issues, including appliances and fuel delivery systems. 4. Ensure all work complies with company safety policies as well as federal, state, and local codes and regulations. 5. Complete and submit all required service documentation, regulatory compliance reports, and company paperwork accurately and timely. 6. Respond to emergency service calls and provide on-call support as scheduled. 7. Communicate effectively with management, and customers regarding service timelines, delays, safety concerns, and equipment needs. 8. Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment in safe working condition. 9. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers. 10. Report all accidents, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and near misses immediately. 11. Perform cathodic protection testing of underground tanks. 12. Requalify in service DOT tanks. 13. Operate a propane bobtail and safely deliver propane to customers as needed. 14. Prepare existing tanks for installation, including painting. |

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | * Minimum of two years of propane, HVAC, mechanical, or related field service experience preferred. Will train the right candidate.
* Valid driver's license with clean driving record; CDL with tanker and hazardous materials endorsements preferred (or ability to obtain).
* Propane Education and Research Councils' PEP (formerly CETP) certification preferred or ability to obtain within designated timeframe. Will provide training to the right candidate.
* Strong knowledge of propane systems, NFPA codes, and safety regulations preferred.
* Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and read technical diagrams and schematics.
* Ability to safely operate service vehicles and equipment.
* Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing 50+ pounds.
* Able to stand, kneel, bend, climb, and work in confined spaces as required.
* Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations as needed.
* Strong communication and customer service skills.
* Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
