JOB SUMMARY
Works under general supervision to provide routine technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to particular field of science.
The Bowen Lab focuses on advancing precision imaging in nuclear medicine. The candidate will assist in the evaluation and refinement of an existing prototype instrument, and development of new prototype instrumentation. Responsibilities will include:
- use of computer aided design (CAD) software
- mechanical engineering design work
- identifying and ordering parts
- machine shop work
- device assembly
- software testing
- and prototype testing of existing and planned instrumentation.
The applicant will record research data in accordance with prescribed procedures and discuss results with their supervisor.
Preferred applicants will have a Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or closely related engineering field and the experience detailed above. Recent graduates with substantial hands-on design and fabrication experience are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants nearing completion of a relevant bachelor's degree may also be considered if they have substantial hands-on experience in mechanical design.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
Completion of two (2) years of college or specialized training in histology, medical technology or relevant field or
High School Diploma including courses in basic sciences such as physics, chemistry, biology, etc. or GED Equivalent
- Experience
1 year of experience as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with Completion of two (2) years of college or
3 years of laboratory experience including two years as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School diploma or GED equivalent
JOB DUTIES
- Assists in conducting experiments and working on research problems in such fields as physiology, bacteriology, tissue culture, chemistry, and other related fields by performing basic, routine, and least complex procedures as prescribed by supervisor.
- Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Records resulting data in accordance with established methods. Confers with supervisor concerning results obtained, and modifies procedures in accordance with instruction of supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
