Assistant Professor - Clinical Psychology

The Department of Psychology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW) invites applications for two (2) full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the area of clinical psychology beginning Fall 2027. The goal of these positions is to attract candidates with a strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and training undergraduate and graduate students, and maintaining a research program that is in balance with these ongoing duties. Successful candidates must be licensed or license-eligible and will serve as members of the Core Clinical Faculty for the Psychology Department's APA-accredited PhD program in General Clinical Psychology.

The General Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program operates within the Department of Psychology and follows a scientist-practitioner model. We welcome clinical psychology applicants from all areas of teaching, clinical, and research interests. Expertise aligned with the program's emphasis on adult clinical training is highly desirable. Candidates whose teaching and scholarship complements or expands the department's strengths, in areas such as but not limited to psychopathology, health, substance use, relationships, and trauma, are especially encouraged to apply. The workload for all tenured and tenure-track faculty is 50% teaching, 40% research, and 10% service. Online teaching may be required for the position.

The Psychology Department has 30 full-time faculty members and serves over 950 undergraduate and over 60 graduate majors. The department operates successful Ph.D. programs in Clinical Psychology, Psychological Science, and Applied Behavior Analysis and a Neuroscience & Behavior Master's program.

The General Clinical PhD program follows a scientist-practitioner model with a cognitive-behavioral clinical focus on adult populations. The program is fully APA-accredited through 2034.

The College of Science and Engineering offers a variety of programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, as well as Doctor of Philosophy degrees in applied coastal and ocean sciences; pharmaceutical chemistry; integrative, comparative, and marine biology; and psychology degrees. The college also offers combined bachelor's/master's degree programs in information technology/computer science and information systems, computer science/computer science and information systems, and B.S. in mathematics/M.S. in mathematics. To implement its academic programs, the college provides instruction and research opportunities in the natural and behavioral sciences, information technology, data science, computer science, mathematics, pre-engineering, and engineering. The eight academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in information technology, cybersecurity, and digital arts. A 2+2 in engineering; and 3+2 programs in computer science and electrical or computer engineering; and physics and electrical engineering, are also offered in the college. Post-baccalaureate certificate programs in environmental studies, applied statistics, and geographic information science are also available.
