Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an Aerothermal Measurement Lead supporting TOS II, at Arnold AFB, TN. The Aerothermal Measurement Lead will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for maintaining and sustaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts. The Engineering Solutions branch performs cutting edge technology development work in support of the National Defense Strategy.

Job Summary

The successful applicant will lead a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring operations are accomplished successfully within the AeroThermal Measurements Lab (ATML) and is involved in the research and development of advanced aerospace measurement and diagnostic systems, analysis, and design analysis techniques.

Job Duties:

    Lead daily operations and oversight of ATML personnel including project assignment.
  • Identify and advocate manpower and resources to assure completion of established ATML objectives.
  • Recommend and implement new policies, modification to existing policies, procedures, and work instructions
  • Responsible for development and fabrication of various types of heat flux measurement techniques/sensor system including Schmidt-Boelter gauges, Null point calorimeters, differential coax and thermopile gauges.
  • Provide engineering input for laboratory work on calibration and characterization of existing measurement techniques and developing advanced thermal environment measurement techniques.
  • Provide support to ATML operations including developing job estimates and maintaining material supplies.
  • Support research efforts with research of developing aerothermal measurement techniques and interpretation of results. Work independently to perform research and investigations of different types of materials for next generation heat flux gauge development.
  • Interface with Test Operations/ Systems engineers and Air Force and their assigned representatives to understand customer measurements needs.
  • Select appropriate sensor/gauge materials and size combination to adopt current technology approaches to meet test needs/ requirements.
  • Work with a team of skilled craft technicians in science of building custom sensors and applications of new techniques.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering school plus 5 or more years of mechanical or aerospace engineering experience; OR 9 or more years of mechanical or aerospace engineering experience in lieu of a degree (where 1 year of college education is equivalent to 1 year of experience).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of operations in ground test facilities including wind tunnels
  • Laboratory or test applications of applications of advanced sensors
  • Knowledge and experience in radiative and conductive heat transfer
  • Knowledge of structural design and analysis
  • Experience in the use of ANSYS workbench, ANSYS STR, MS Office suite, MatLab, LabVIEW and AutoDesk Inventor
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Active DoD Secret clearance
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving/troubleshooting skills

L08: $96,000 - $131,000 / year at Arnold Air Force Base, TN.
