Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Built Environment invites applications for Part-Time Instructors for Spring 2027 and Fall 2027. Part-Time Instructors are temporary employees, hired on a semester-by-semester basis to teach courses for the Geomatics program.

The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory and advanced-level courses for the Geomatics program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: teaching face-to-face and/or online, attend training and/or review sessions. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to, academic advising, student organization support, participation in program development and assessment. The candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and university. We also welcome applications from qualified instructors who may not be able to be physically present on campus, where their teaching assignment and responsibilities can be appropriately supported through online delivery.

Candidates must reside in North Carolina.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Built Environment supports over 290 undergraduate majors in the programs of Construction Management, Environmental Health and Safety and, Geomatics. The courses taught in the Geomatics program area are at the undergraduate level and can include Automated Surveying and Mapping, Residential Subdivision Design, Geodesy and Satellite Positioning (see below).

Minimum Requirements
Candidates must have a Master's degree in the related discipline.
Professional experience in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Relevant industry or teaching experience in one or more curriculum areas, including:

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, residential and subdivision design

  • GNSS equipment and basic geodetic techniques
  • Survey adjustment and measurements
  • Photogrammetry and remote sensing
  • Hydrology, Piping systems and related surveying/GIS applications
  • Practical industry experience and/or professional training in the assigned course area is an asset.
