Assistant or Associate Professor - School of Engineering

The School of Engineering at Tufts University invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions as part of the Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute (TEMI). Outstanding candidates at the Associate Professor rank will also be considered. TEMI is a recently-established collaborative partnership between Tufts University and Epsilon Group, an industrial leader in advanced carbon materials for batteries and other applications. TEMI seeks to address global challenges in energy and sustainability through breakthrough materials research.

Applicants with expertise in computation, synthesis, characterization, and manufacturing of advanced materials for energy applications are highly encouraged to apply.

Areas of particular interest include but are not limited to the use of artificial intelligence across material lifecycle, including novel materials discovery, AI-integrated self-driving laboratories, and AI-driven manufacturing and scaling of material processing. Materials of interest include energy storage materials, superconducting and magnetic materials, catalytic materials, and optical materials. Successful candidates will be appointed in the School of Engineering's department that best matched their background and will hold core affiliation with TEMI.

A doctorate in material science and engineering or a closely related discipline is required. The successful candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary research program and demonstrate excellence in teaching and student mentorship. They should have a passion for sustainability, materials circularity, and the translation of innovative discoveries towards commercialization. We also seek individuals who embrace opportunities to work collaboratively within their home department as well as across the School of Engineering (SOE) and the University.
