Job Summary The Pulmonary Hypertension Team Medical Assistant is responsible for coordinating administrative and clinical support services for patients with pulmonary hypertension. This role manages medication prior authorizations, referral processing and follow-up for both in-network and out-of-network services, and insurance authorizations for specialized diagnostic testing and procedures, including Right Heart Catheterizations (RHC), Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), and Level I, II, and III services. The Medical Assistant serves as a liaison among patients, providers, specialty pharmacies, and insurance carriers to facilitate timely access to care, ensure compliance with payer requirements, and support the delivery of high-quality patient care. Additionally, the role maintains accurate documentation, coordinates patient testing and appointments, and assists the multidisciplinary Pulmonary Hypertension team in managing complex patient care needs. Qualifications This position is Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm * Escort patients to examination rooms; prepare patients for provider visits by conducting medication reconciliation, obtaining and documenting vital signs, height, and weight; and accurately record all clinical information in the electronic medical record to ensure complete and up-to-date patient documentation.* Supports patient care and the health care team by anticipating administrative functions requiring support including but not limited to preparing prior authorizations, participating with the approval process for medications as appropriate, monitoring clinical messaging, supporting providers with completion of patient follow up letters, updating the medical record with patient information under the guidance of the provider.* Learn and support the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) process by assisting with the coordination, preparation, submission, and follow-up of DME requests to ensure timely patient care and accurate documentation. Obtains and tracks prior authorizations for specialized pulmonary and cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing, including Right Heart Catheterizations (RHC), CPET, and Level I, II, and III CTEPH-related services and procedures.* Provide phone support on non-clinic days by responding to patient inquiries, assisting with scheduling needs, routing messages appropriately, and ensuring timely communication with patients and the healthcare team.* Ensure examination rooms are stocked daily with appropriate medical supplies and equipment to support efficient clinic operations and patient care.* Perform standardized 6-Minute Walk Tests to assess patients' functional exercise capacity and oxygen requirements* Other duties as assigned.
