Part Time Copy Editor

This role is integral to our content production, where you will be the guardian of quality, style, and accuracy for a diverse range of digital content. Role Details

• Hours: Part-Time (20-28 hours per week; shifts structured in 5- to 6-hour blocks; 4-5 shifts per week)
• Schedule: 8:00 AM EST start time; potential weekend morning availability

Primary Responsibilities

• Copyedit a variety of content, including editorial pieces, show titles, descriptions, and social media content, to ensure accuracy, adherence to proper style, clear structure, and legal soundness.
• Coordinate the continuous flow of copy among editors, fact-checkers, and a team of up to a dozen editorial staff members, ensuring efficient workflow management.
• Build, format, and maintain digital pages using Content Management Systems like WordPress and other digital publishing tools.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional copyediting experience gained within a daily, weekly, or monthly publication, or a high-volume publishing/journalism environment.
• Strong command of AP and Chicago styles.
• Demonstrated experience with Content Management Systems (e.g., WordPress) and web-based production tools.
• Exceptional command of English grammar, line editing, structure, tone, punctuation, and proofreading, with a proven ability to perform under tight deadlines.
• Proven ability to manage high-volume turnaround times in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to partner effectively across a multi-editor copy desk.
• Ability to apply critical editorial judgment, moving beyond surface-level proofreading to evaluate stories for taste, potential legal issues, sentence flow, and journalistic integrity.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Background in sports editing or a high comfort level with reading sports copy, coupled with familiarity with pop-culture content.
• Experience in digital publishing, web media production, and deep feature editing.
