Health Equity Intern (College)

The Health Equity Intern position with the Department of Health (DOH) offers a chance to support important projects that aim to reduce health disparities across Pennsylvania. This role allows you to learn from experienced professionals while helping identify needs in communities. This role focuses on supporting the Office of Health Equity by assisting with research, communication, meetings, and project development. You will help gather information, organize materials, and contribute to efforts that promote fair access to health services. As a Health Equity Intern, you will perform the following duties:

• Research Support: Develop evaluation plans and assist with data collection to identify health disparities
• Communication Assistance: Apply written, oral, and digital communication methods for various tasks
• Meeting Participation: Attend stakeholder meetings and summarize key points
• Publication Review: Review and help format publications and policies related to health equity
• Project Work: Complete assigned intern projects that support office goals
• Relationship Building: Develop connections with bureaus across the department

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Part-time internship, 20 hours per week, lasting 5 months (September to February)
• Work hours will be decided during the hiring process.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. • Hourly Rate: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting hourly rate of $17.88 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

• You must be enrolled in college full-time in a bachelor's degree program, or be a college graduate within the last one to two years.
• You must be in good academic standing and possess a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

• Preferred Majors: Public Health, Environmental Studies, Behavioral Health Counseling, Human Development and Counseling, Health Sciences, Health Services Administration, Nutrition & Foods, Global Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Global Public Health, Health Data Analytics, or Public Administration.
