What to Expect
The Factory Engineering team is looking for a Pipe Stress Engineer to join our Factory Engineering Design team in Austin, TX. The Factory Engineering team designs utilities and infrastructure systems for the manufacturing areas, including occupied spaces from concept to fabrication-ready designs. The Pipe Stress Engineer completes flexibility and computational stress analysis on utilities and piping systems to ensure Giga Texas is one of the world's most reliable factories.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert on pipe stress and pipe support design, including ASME and other relevant codes and practices.Must be familiar and experienced with using Caesar II and NozzlePRO
  • Identify the level of analysis needed for any piping system through review of P&IDs/Thermal Input Sheets and communicate with project stakeholders to help develop project timeline, budget, and resources. Perform piping flexibility analysis and computational pipe stress analysis on various piping systems. Resolve high pipe loads on equipment nozzles
  • Selection of spring hangers, expansion joints, snubbers & other "engineered" supports. Mark-up piping diagrams and isometrics, providing feedback to piping and structural designers
  • Generate bills of material for supports, guides, anchors, stops, flex joints, and expansion joints in support of construction activities and schedules. Specify guide, anchor, and support types, including alternate materials and suppliers if lead times are longer than project schedules allow
  • Effectively communicate the impact of stress analysis on various system designs and escalate concerns regarding schedule and material lead times. Review and approve final design documents for piping systems, including isometrics, shop drawings, material submittals, and pipe support designs
  • Review and approve pipe stress analyses and support designs from third parties by means of submittals & RFIs. Review design work performed by Piping Designers on the Mechanical & Process Design Teams, including 3D designs in Revit or Navisworks. Ensure every design maintains the highest level of quality, and pipe stress analysis results and requirements are incorporated
  • Continually develop and improve project workflows and standards to ensure each design is consistently excellent

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in mechanical engineeringor equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Pipe Stress Engineering for large chemical or high-tech manufacturer or an EPC firm, or a multi-discipline engineering consulting firm supporting those industries
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas or the ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Expert knowledge of ASME piping codes, ASTM material standards, structural codes, and building and fire codes
  • Strong ability to perform quick visual inspection & manual calculations in addition to computational analyses
  • Ability to adapt, multi-task, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with evolving changes in design requirements
  • Expert knowledge of Caesar II, Navisworks, & Bluebeam
