Responsibilities

Wellstone Regional Hospitalis a 100-bed acute care facilitylocatedin Jeffersonville, Indiana and has been providing quality health care to the residents of Southern Indiana and the Louisville area since 2003. Wellstone specializes in the treatment of Adolescents, Children, and theAdultpopulation. In addition to our in-patient services, we offer out-patient programs as well. Wellstone is currently searching fora dependable Milieu Specialist (Lead Tech.)

The MilieuSpecialist will have responsibility for the development and implementation of the therapeutic milieu within the Acute Psychiatric Services unit. To ensure safety and consistency in treating the patients, the MilieuSpecialistwill have the responsibility of encouraging theteamapproach to therapeutic interventions. In consultation with the Nurse Managers, Director of Clinical Services, and the Chief Nursing Officer they willassistthe Nurse Supervisors in the monitoring of unit activities and daily duties assigned to the Mental HealthTechnicians

The role of the MilieuSpecialistis that of a resource to the members of the interdisciplinary treatment team with a goal of fostering a therapeutic milieu that encourages the achievement of treatment goals. This might include assistance with the direct care and management of the patients; the provision of supervision, safety, and crisis management for the patient population; the completion of documentation of patient behavior and participation in programming; the adherence to the scheduled activities; role modeling positive, mature behavior; utilizing positive behavioral strategies to minimize patient crisis and maximize success; etc.


Qualifications

Duties:

  • Assistsin the implementation of the treatment plan for each resident.Assistsin providing safe delivery of care to meet the goals andobjectivesof each patient's plan of care.Assistswith the milieu to guide the development of acceptable habits and attitudes by consistently and fairly implementing the behavioral program, emphasizing good choices, and positive interactions.
  • Make facility rounds continuously; stay visual in all areas on the unit. Completes documentationregardingpatient supervision, behaviors, and participation in the programin a timely manner, with professional entries.

  • Ensure all room searches and safety and security checklists are completed.Ensure pat downs are completed and documented.
  • Responds to crisis situations and manages resident behaviorsin accordance withthe Behavioral Management Program,demonstratingeffective ability to de- escalate a client in the crisis cycle.
  • NotifyNursing Supervisor,Nurse Managerand maintenance of all facility issues or property destruction.
  • Demonstrates leadership roles and responsibilitiesexhibitedby role modeling professionalism, positiveattitudeand constructive criticism to MHT staff.
  • Meets with the Nursing Supervisor at the beginning of every shift and coordinatesMHT assignments and plans lunch break reliefs.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:HighSchool Degree or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.

Experience:One (1) year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred; 3 years highly recommended.

Licensure/Certifications:None required, CNA is a plus!

Additional Requirements: CPI (physical interventions) and CPR training. May berequiredto work overtime and flexible hours when needed. MUST have clear communication/interaction skills and demonstrate competency in facilitating psychoeducation groups.

Hours of Work:2ndshift, 2p-10p, rotating weekends; other times asindicatedby immediate supervisor.
