A Brief Overview
Provides supportive care to patients including surveillance of monitoring equipment and assists nurses in the provision of care and the maintenance of a clean, comfortable and well-stocked nursing unit. This position is twelve hours per week and includes every third weekend. Shifts rotate between day and night.

What you will do

  • Assists in the provision of care to patients and families. (30%)
  • Quickly and accurately communicates patient information to the appropriate team member
  • Responds according to unit procedures in emergency situations.
  • Sets up arrhythmia monitoring system and equipment and prepares it for reuse.
  • Responds to patient/family requests and obtains assistance of other team members as needed to address patient needs.
  • Communicates with other team members as to patient status and needs.
  • Orients new staff and students to the role, monitoring system and admit/transfer/discharge processes.
  • Attends training related to arrhythmia monitoring system upgrades as needed
  • Receives report and updates from charge nurse on new patients.
  • Gives report end of shift to bedside nurse, oncoming telemetry tech and charge nurse.
  • Assesses and analyze ECG information from the arrhythmia monitoring system. (60%)
  • Continuously assess ECG recordings for all cardiac patients in the CICU or CCU/CPRU, as well as all remotely monitored patients.
  • Assess each patient's lead placement to assure that the monitoring system is able to read the ECG correctly.
  • Notifies Nurse of need for change in lead placement
  • Immediately responds to each patient's alarms or presence of abnormal tracings by notifying the nurse or MD.
  • Notifies the RN, Charge Nurse and/or MD of all true crisis of warning alarms.
  • Recognizes various wave forms and distinguishes aberrations in cardiac rhythms.
  • Collects and maintains records of patients ECG tracings including measurements at least once a shift
  • Collaborates with charge nurse to receive ongoing information regarding admissions, transfers, discharges and changes in patient's condition.
  • Activated the rapid response team/code team for any patient situation that requires such intervention.
  • Collaborates with other teams to assure safe patient practice. (10%)
  • Collaborates with OMS to manage supplies and adjust par levels as needed
  • Collaborates with biomed to identify issues related to monitor system related issues as they occur.
  • Ensures telemetry packs are available for each patient.
  • Maintains tracking system to ensure consistent maintenance of telemetry packs
  • Notifies biomed of broken equipment broken equipment, tags it and moves it
  • Generates service charges for equipment and supply items use by patients.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED - Required
  • Associate's Degree Cardiographic Technician - Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year in an acute care setting - Required
  • Telemetry experience - Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, verbally and in writing.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks according to unit needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships.

SALARY RANGE:

$25.50 - $31.85 Hourly

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
