Description

The Clearing is seeking a Senior Consultant with deep expertise in SharePoint Online (SPO) and Microsoft 365 (O365) to support a high-profile and mission-critical project within the Department of War. This role serves as the project's subject matter expert for SharePoint Online, collaboration solutions, governance, information management, and Microsoft 365 best practices.

The ideal candidate is a consultant and advisor who understands how organizations leverage SharePoint Online and DoD365/Microsoft 365 to improve collaboration, information sharing, content management, and operational effectiveness. This role focuses on providing strategic guidance, governance recommendations, site owner coaching/support, and subject-matter expertise to help clients optimize the value of their collaboration platforms. SharePoint development, particularly with MS Power Platform, is expected in this low-code/no-code environment.

The Consultant will work closely with project leadership, business stakeholders, and user adoption specialists to support sustainable, well-governed use of SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 capabilities.

Qualified candidates must have a Top Secret security clearance (or one that's been active within the past two years) and be willing to work on-site at the client location in Arlington, VA.

What You'll Do

SharePoint & Microsoft 365 Consulting & Support Services
  • Serve as the project's primary subject matter expert for SharePoint Online and DoD365/Microsoft 365 collaboration tools.
  • Assess current collaboration practices and recommend improvements that enhance usability, consistency, and effectiveness; support development of collaboration strategies that align with business and mission objectives.
  • Facilitate stakeholder discussions to gather requirements and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Advise stakeholders on SharePoint Online best practices, governance, migration efforts, information architecture, and content management strategies.
  • Provide guidance on document management, information organization, metadata usage, search, and content lifecycle management.
  • Develop solutions and provide support using Microsoft Power Platform tools (PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI).
  • Troubleshoot and provide solutions leveraging modern O365 tools and applications to remediate end-user support tickets.
  • Translate business needs into practical recommendations and approaches.
  • Support project planning, client engagement, and delivery activities.
Governance & Information Management
  • Support governance initiatives related to SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 environments, including supporting the development of governance documentation, guidance materials, SOPs, and best-practice resources.
  • Advise stakeholders on content organization, site structure, and information management best practices.
  • Support document management and records management initiatives through consultation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Participate in site reviews, governance assessments, and quality assurance activities.
  • Promote consistency, usability, and compliance across collaboration environments.
Site Owner Coaching & User Support
  • Coach site owners and users on the effective use of SharePoint Online capabilities and adoption.
  • Provide advisory support to business teams seeking to improve collaboration and information sharing practices.
  • Support user questions related to governance, content organization, migration, site management, and collaboration approaches.
  • Partner with training and adoption specialists to ensure educational content reflects Microsoft 365 best practices.

Compensation

The projected annual salary range for this position is between $110,000 and $162,000. Actual compensation and starting salaries are determined by various factors, including the candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, certifications, clearance level, and internal equity. Once at The Clearing, movement through pay bands is based on performance. Base-annual salary is just one component of The Clearing's total compensation philosophy and approach. Requirements
  • Active Top Secret clearance (or active within the past two years).
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 8+ years of experience supporting SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Experience supporting SharePoint Online and migration to SharePoint Online within the federal government or defense organizations.
  • Experience advising stakeholders on governance, content management, collaboration, and information management.
  • Knowledge of document management, governance, records management, and information architecture principles.
  • Experience facilitating stakeholder discussions and translating business requirements into recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a business style for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated attention to detail, organization, and time management.
  • Flexible, adaptive mindset with the ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes, and often ambiguous client environments.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements including the Americans with Disabilities Act (Section 508 Compliance) and Safeguarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, now and in the future, without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to work onsite in Arlington, Virginia.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • CompTIA A+, MS-900 (M365 Fundamentals), or ITIL 4.0 certification.
    • Experience supporting DoD365 environments.
    • Knowledge of records management and information governance practices.
    • Experience with SPO user training.
    • Human-Centered Design experience.
