New Hanover County is seeking an Inventory Control Specialist to join our Facilities Management Team. This role responsible for the management of inventory, including procurement, storage, tracking, and distribution.
New Hanover County's Facilities Management department oversees the maintenance and upkeep of all county owned buildings and facilities as well as energy sustainability through our utility management program. We are a dynamic team of trades professionals, custodians, supervisors and administrative staff who work every day to make our facilities the best in North Carolina. Essential Duties include:
- Prepare purchase orders for stock and non-standard items to include researching vendors and writing specifications.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors.
- Maintain computerized inventory records in work order system of supplies, parts, and materials needed for the maintenance and upkeep of County facilities.
- Conduct daily analysis to identify potential inventory issues and report variances and damages.
- Responsible for inventory reconciliation of stock
- Pick up and deliver supplies from local vendors.
- Operates a forklift to move inventory as needed.
- Store and retrieve materials, tools, and supplies.
- Manage the inventory of surplus items and assets in compliance with established procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of surplus inventory,
- Coordinate surplus item transfers between County departments.
- Perform work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the County.
- Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements related to asset management and procurement.
- Conduct regular audits of surplus items and assets to ensure compliance and accuracy.

- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of material control methods; basic purchasing principles; shipping and receiving practices; record- keeping principles.
- Skill in preparing purchase orders; preparing bids; driving vehicles; operating forklifts; using office equipment; communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information.
- Computing (MS Excel, Word, Outlook), business system (ERP, WMS,), and analytic/ numerical skills.
- Accurate mathematic and data entry skills
- Ability to gain proficiency in computer operations in company systems and other programs, as needed.
- Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment.
- Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail.
- Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to function independently with minimal supervision and be self-motivated.

Hours: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.
Employment Type: Full-time, non-exempt
Salary Information: The hiring salary
for this position starts at $38,140 annually plus a competitive benefits package
.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent, and three (3) years of related inventory or purchasing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the specific position as listed above.

Licenses/Certifications

Required:
- Valid Driver's License (from any state) and good driving record required at time of application.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
- Forklift Operator certified.
Preferred:
- Facility Engineering Management Diploma
- Energy Management Diploma
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is performed primarily in an office or indoor setting, with typical levels of noise and disruptions. Occasionally, work is performed outside where the employee may be exposed to varying temperature and/or weather conditions.
