Responsibilities

The George Washington University Hospital's Medical-Surgical Rehabilitation Department is seeking a Rehabilitation Technician to join our rehab team full-time to support the therapy needs of our hospitalized patients. GW Hospital is a 385 bed Level 1 Trauma Center, Academic Medical Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center located in the heart of Washington, DC. GW offers clinical expertise and world-class care in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neuroscience, critical care, trauma, women's health, organ and tissue transplant, and advanced surgical techniques. Our rehab team works collaboratively alongside other healthcare professionals to enhance patients' functional recovery, support patient care delivery, and promote a safe, efficient, and patient-centered environment.

Position Summary

  • Assist therapists with patient mobility, handling, and basic patient care activities in an acute care hospital to support rehabilitation treatments.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized rehab gym and patient care areas, including equipment cleaning and infection control practices.
  • Stock and manage supplies and ensure readiness of treatment and patient care areas.
  • Provide administrative and operational support such as making copies, placing work orders, tracking inventory, and performing audits.
  • Assist Speech-Language Pathologists with FEES and modified barium swallow studies, including set-up, patient assistance, supply preparation, equipment cleaning, and maintaining stocked SLP materials and supplies.
  • This position is 40 hours (five 8-hour weekday shifts) per week with optional weekend work available for a day off during the week

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior hospital or rehab experience required
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals by AHA or Red Cross

Skills:

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities
