Job Summary The Student Services Specialist, Sr (Student Success Coach) delivers comprehensive, student-centered coaching to support adult learners in General Education Development (GED) preparation, English language acquisition, and career training programs. The role focuses on improving retention, persistence, completion, and supporting students in overcoming academic and non-academic barriers during their time in the Adult Education program. Through proactive case management and ongoing communication, the Student Success Coach monitors student progress, including attendance, assessment, and academic performance, and provides targeted interventions to support student success. This includes identifying and addressing non-academic challenges, such as basic needs challenges, such as food, housing, transportation, and access to public benefits, and connecting students to appropriate resources and support. The role coordinates across student and academic services to ensure comprehensive support for students. Maintains accurate documentation and tracks student data in alignment with program and reporting requirements, and analyzes student data trends to inform timely interventions and continuous improvement of student success strategies and service delivery. Additionally, this role supports and coordinates the implementation of student success strategies, contributes to continuous improvement efforts, and advances effective coaching practices. Essential Functions 65% - Case Management, Student Support, & Coaching: Provides proactive, student-centered coaching and case management to support adult learners in GED preparation, English language classes, and career training programs. Serves as an initial point of contact for students, building rapport and supporting successful onboarding, engagement, and persistence from program entry through transition points. Conducts regular outreach through meetings, phone, and electronic communication to monitor attendance, participation, and progress. Identifies barriers to persistence, including unmet basic needs such as food security, housing stability, and access to public benefits and connects students to appropriate internal and external resources and supports students in navigating access to those services. Reinforces college and career pathway awareness and refers students to College and Career Navigators for detailed academic and career planning. Coordinates and collaborates with navigators, instructors, and cross-functional partners across student services and support areas to implement retention strategies and ensure coordinated support for students. Supports the delivery of student services aligned with program goals and operational needs and coordinates aspects of student engagement and follow-up to promote persistence. 25% - Data Tracking & Progress Monitoring: Maintains accurate documentation of student interactions and case management activities in designated systems. Tracks student attendance, assessment, and academic progress toward program milestones. Monitors student engagement and identifies students at risk of stopping out. Shares relevant data and insights with the team to support timely interventions and coordinated student support. Ensures data entry and tracking align with program and compliance requirements. Analyzes student data trends to identify patterns in engagement and persistence and shares insights to inform program improvements and targeted interventions. 10% - Orientation, Outreach, & Program Support: Supports and coordinates aspects of student onboarding through participation in orientations, workshops, and classroom presentations focused on program expectations, engagement, and available resources. Maintains general knowledge of program resources and opportunities to guide students and facilitate appropriate referrals. Participates in team meetings and professional development activities to support effective service delivery and consistent implementation of program procedures. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered Desired Qualifications A. Experience providing front-line student support or customer service in a fast-paced, student- or customer-facing environment B. Experience working with diverse, underrepresented, or underserved populations, including individuals facing academic, economic, or social barriers C. Experience providing coaching, guidance, or support services to help individuals achieve educational or career-related goals D. Proficiency in common higher education technologies, such as spreadsheets, word processing tools, student information systems (SIS), customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, data/reporting tools, and virtual collaboration tools E. Experience tracking, monitoring, and utilizing data to inform student support strategies, engagement, and outcomes F. Experience supporting student persistence, retention, or engagement initiatives in an education, workforce, or community-based setting G. One (1) year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two (2) years Special Working Conditions Assigned work location is Rio Salado College Thomas, 3631 W.
