Position Summary
-
The Coordinator of Tutoring plays a critical leadership role in advancing student success by overseeing the daily operations of the Tutoring Center. This position is responsible for driving the effectiveness and quality of tutoring services through intentional coordination, tutor development and training, and data-informed scheduling that maximizes student access and support. The coordinator leads and develops both professional and peer tutors, fosters a highly inclusive and student-centered environment, and ensures the delivery of exceptional tutoring services that promote retention, achievement, and overall student academic success. The coordinator works directly with the Executive Director and the Tutoring and Academic Support Center team to ensure tutor offerings align with team and College efforts.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

- Coordinate, implement, and evaluate activities, programs, and services that fulfill the mission of tutoring and related academic support services
- Coordinate long-term planning, goal setting, and lead the assessment of tutoring services
- Lead the development and/or improvement of workflows, process documentation, and procedures for tutoring services
- Lead the data collection, analysis, and communication of the data to ensure continuous improvement informs any changes to tutoring resources and services
- Assist students via scheduled appointments, drop-in visits, email correspondence, and other communication channels, and maintain accurate tracking data and notes within Navigate360 for student appointments and referrals
- Leverage technology to support academic experience for students
- Forecast future needs, anticipate potential obstacles, and solve problems before they escalate
- Ensure tutoring is adequately staffed to meet tutoring needs of students in various content areas
- Implement key performance measures to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of tutoring programs and services, to identify potential gaps in services, and to implement changes to improve the performance and quality of tutoring services
- Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard Contingent tutors and student employee tutors
- Monitor expenditures to ensure adherence to the budget for tutor pay and resources needed to support tutoring efforts.
- Establish procedure manuals for tutoring efforts and develop instructional materials and other resources to support tutoring services.
- Coordinate professional development and ongoing training to ensure tutors provide quality customer service, tutoring best practices, and are connected to the College's initiatives and strategic plan
- Provide tutors with the needed resources to assist students in achieving a better understanding of specific content material, improving academic capabilities, and developing study skills necessary for academic success
- Partner with Faculty, Staff, and Administrators to refer and engage students in tutoring
- Schedule time in the Tutoring and Academic Support Center, biology resource lab, other tutoring locations on campus, and the online tutoring platform consistently.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement innovative and creative tutoring initiatives with the goal of improving course success rates
- Develop outreach and communication campaigns to increase student awareness and encourage them to engage in tutoring services
- Lead the advertising efforts of all tutoring services and efforts
- Create, modify, and maintain tutoring research guides (LibGuides), Canvas shells, and the tutoring website
- Assist with supporting and giving directions to student employees who staff the front desk
- Compile data and information for governmental and institutional reports, and lead in preparing reports for tutoring services
- Facilitate training and development for the campus community in a variety of formats to include professional development days, virtual training, tutorials, seminars, and faculty and employee meetings
- Create and implement services and resources with inclusive design and accessibility at the center
- Provide back-up coverage for all tutoring services and academic support services
- Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities

Required Qualifications
-
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Experience working directly in a tutoring center, an academic support program, library, or experience in an education setting
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree preferred
- Community college work experience
- Tutor coordinator experience
- Bilingual language skills (English - Spanish)
- Project management or coordinator experience
Skills and Specifications:
- Knowledge of best practices used in tutoring post-secondary education students
- Commitment to a seamless educational experience for students
- Ability to manage competing commitments and understand the nature of student-centered and success work is imperative
- Effective supervision in guiding, leading, and motivating a team of individuals
- Proficient technology skills, and experience with software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Alma, Navigate360, Canvas, SpringShare.
- Ability and willingness to learn systems and applications that use advanced technology
- Ability to lead and work effectively with community members, faculty, staff, and students
- Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and be flexible
- Ability to accept administrative vision and direction
- Willingness to share knowledge, learn from mistakes, and develop multiple competencies
- Willingness to share responsibility for improving work relations
- Ability to relate and/or work effectively with students, staff, and community members, and value the educational, occupational, age, gender and cultural differences of others
