This position opening is for an individual to serve, as both, a part-time Academic Administrator (50%) and part-time Adjunct Professor (50%) position. Each position description is detailed below: Academic Administrator duties (50%) NATURE AND PURPOSE Academic Administrators are appointees who administer programs that provide service closely related to the teaching and research mission of the University. The Academic Administrator oversees complex units with a substantial amount of independence and works closely or jointly with faculty. An Academic Administrator is primarily an administrative position. Any contributions to teaching would be considered part of the University and Public Service and evaluated as part of service. An Academic Administrator is not a faculty title and as such is not eligible to be an Instructor of Record. Appointees in the Academic Administrator title series cannot be independently responsible for conducting regular courses but may provide a guest lecture in their area of expertise. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIGNATED AREAS OF EXPERTISE I. ADMINISTRATION/MANAGEMENT OF PROGRAMS (80%) Maternal and Child Nutrition - Master of Advanced Study (80%) II. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (5%) The incumbent must show evidence of continuing professional growth, teaching expertise and continued scholarly activity in their discipline. They will provide intellectual leadership and scholarship and participate in relevant professional societies and conferences. The candidate may give oral presentation to public and professional interest groups, or at seminars, meetings, or educational functions. Ill. UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (15%) The incumbent will participate in the governance of the MCN, Nutrition department and university through appropriate roles such as participation in committees and policy formulation. They may provide presentations or service in a liaison capacity with community groups, public, governmental, and private agencies. Coordinating a seminar course, such as MCN 264A, or clinical lactation internships, and guest lectures is expected. Adjunct Professor duties (50%) This position involves predominately teaching as well as participation in research and scholarly activities within the designated expertise of Maternal and Child Nutrition. he Nutrition department will compensate the teaching portion of the appointment through the self-supporting Master of Advanced Study in Maternal and Child Nutrition program, while the research portion will be self-funded, with research effort set at 25% on a variable basis. The rank and step will be determined by experience. NATURE AND PURPOSE
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIGNATED AREAS OF EXPERTISE I. TEACHING AND MENTORING (65% VARIABLE) II. RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY WORK (25% VARIABLE) Conduct an independent research program on projects within their area of expertise in Nutrition, where they will foster collaboration among Nutrition Department faculty and graduate students. They will seek grant funding for these projects, as Adjunct Professors are self-funded for their research. The incumbent will devise and conduct studies to address the key topics described above and other relevant research questions; collect, summarize and analyze data; publish research results in peer-reviewed journals as senior author; prepare reports on research findings and acquire funding to support their research program. Other research duties will include managing the budget and projects according to sound management principles. III. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (5%) IV.
