HDR has an opportunity for a Senior Transportation Engineer to work with a team of professionals in planning, designing, and supporting construction of interstates and highways, urban streets and intersections, and pedestrian/bicycle projects that make a difference in our communities. The successful candidate will work as a member of the Highways and Roads team on projects serving clients in Northern California and beyond. The position requires leading the technical design of transportation projects to support our clients while meeting the fundamental obligation to prioritize the safety, health, and welfare of the public. The position will oversee staff and is tasked with providing guidance to mid-level and junior engineers during development of design. The position assumes some project management responsibilities and client interaction, but also includes preparation of plans, detail drawings, and quantity estimation for projects of various sizes and complexities. The candidate will need to be a self-motivated individual who maintains a high level of professionalism while performing engineering assignments.

In the role of Senior Transportation Engineer, we'll count on you to:
  • Serve in the lead technical role in the detailed development of urban roadway design projects

  • Perform quality assurance checks on major transportation projects on interstate and state highway systems

  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity

  • Assume some project management duties and interact with clients as needed

  • Supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians as needed

  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Microsoft Office applications

  • Experience with all phases of Caltrans' project development process

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teams
  • Project management skills desirable
  • Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
  • Must have coordinated survey, grading, drainage and utilities and layout of various site items is a plus
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $130,361.00 - $211,625.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
