JOB POSITION: Social Media & Communications Intern (Public Relations)
Division: Public Relations Status: Non-Exempt Job Code: 639C Reports To: Director Public Relations Date: 04-24-26 Revised Date: 00-00-00 Last Reviewed Date: 00-00-00 SUMMARY OF JOB The Social Media & Communications Intern will support our digital outreach and storytelling efforts. This role assists with shooting and editing video, creating content across social media platforms, and helping maintain a consistent brand voice. The intern will also collaborate with staff to promote programs and events (as needed) while gaining hands-on experience in public communications and marketing. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned or scheduled. * Assist with creating and editing videos, graphics, and social media content. * Draft short captions, announcements, and promotional content. * Monitor social media engagement and help compile basic analytics. * Perform general communications support as needed. * No more than 40 hours per week and no more than 1040 hours per year. Hours defined by Divisional management team. * No benefits. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, and other major social media platforms. * Experience with photography, videography and editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere. * Interest in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field. * Strong written communication skills and attention to detail. * Organized, creative, motivated and eager to learn. * Ability to work safely and obey all safety rules. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with coworkers, other Water Authority departments and the general public. * Ability to carry out instructions furnished in writing, oral or diagram form. * Ability to work alone or in a team environment. * Must possess and maintain a good work ethic with a strong emphasis on good attendance, reporting to work on time, completing job assignments in a timely manner, maintaining a good work attitude, performing all job duties as assigned and/or scheduled. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE * Prefer current enrollment in Bachelor's degree program in education, communication, journalism, environmental studies or related field. * Interested students must be enrolled and active in a high school or college curriculum that is beneficial to both the student and the Water Authority. CERTIFICATE, LICENSE, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS * Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license or have the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment date. No more than six (6) demerit points on driving record if required to drive Water Authority vehicles. If corrective lenses are noted on driver's license, the lenses must be worn when operating Authority vehicles. * Repetitive movement using keyboard and/or office equipment is involved. * Employee must be able to sit for an extended amount of time at a desk or workstation. * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, climb, balance or crawl. * Employee must be able to stand for an extended amount of time at the jobsite. * Employee must be physically able to walk several miles during the day. * Employee must be physically able to regularly reach overhead. * Employee must regularly lift, carry and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally 25 pounds. Assistance is required on weight amounts above those listed. Failure to do so could result in injury and denied Worker's Compensation benefits.
