The Position

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified applicants to apply for this limited term position (up to 12 months) in the Pipeline Infrastructure Division of EBMUD's Engineering and Construction Department. The Junior Engineer will perform a variety of engineering assignments related to the water distribution system and operation of a large municipal water supply system. The position will also support special projects involving statistical modeling, data analysis, and innovative research initiatives to improve system performance and advance new technologies and initiatives. This is an entry-level position. All assignments are under the direct supervision of registered engineers and provide qualifying experience for registration.

The ideal candidate for this position will have engineering knowledge including the following:

*Knowledge of water and wastewater system design, construction, and/or operation.

*Knowledge of pipeline performance testing (e.g., fiber optic sensing or acoustic monitoring), condition assessment, and failure mechanisms.

*Experience performing detailed data analysis and/or modeling, using large, complex datasets.

*Experience with programming and data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, SQL, or similar).

*Experience developing and evaluating models using statistical, machine learning, and Al techniques.

*Experience evaluating, developing, or applying new and emerging technologies.

*Ability to develop technical studies or research proposals related to water system design, construction, operation, and/or maintenance.

Typical duties may include:

*Performs calculations and prepares moderately complex reports and estimates of costs, quantities, and work for proposed projects and contract construction work; collects, computes, and compiles engineering data and statistics; and reports on work progress.

*Conducts field and office engineering studies related to the planning, design, construction, and operation of water distribution facilities.

*Conducts field/laboratory tests and measurements and assists in interpreting and making recommendations based on data collected; assists in preparing written reports, correspondence, memoranda, graphic charts, records, and displays for review and approval by others.

*Confers with engineers, other EBMUD personnel, representatives of contractors, other agencies, and the public.

*Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.


Requirements

1.A bachelor's degree in an engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or a California Engineer in Training Certificate.

2.Valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
