Position Summary:
We are seeking a hands on Mechanical Engineer that will play a key role in the design and delivery of complex radiography systems, leading mechanical development across multiple subsystems or projects from concept through production. This role operates in a collaborative, fast moving development environment and requires strong system level thinking and hands on design expertise. The position involves full ownership of mechanical subsystems, close collaboration with cross functional teams, and direct engagement with suppliers and manufacturing partners. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in mechanical design, manufacturing processes, tolerance management, and design for manufacturability and serviceability, with the ability to execute designs in regulated environments.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical subsystems for complex radiography systems, from concept through production, across multiple concurrent projects.
- Own end to end mechanical subsystem development, including requirements definition, CAD layouts, component geometry, material selection, detailed drawings, finishes, and support the release into manufacturing.
- Provide technical leadership for both internally developed and supplier designed subsystems, ensuring alignment to system requirements, performance, manufacturability, cost, schedule, and regulatory compliance.
- Define, review, and approve supplier designs, including CAD models, drawings, GD&T, analyses, and verification plans; resolve technical and integration issues as needed.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Serviceability (DFS) principles, including tolerance stack up analysis, assembly sequencing, and cost, yield, and reliability trade offs.
- Perform hands on prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting, including fit/form/function evaluations, root cause analysis, and development of mechanical test fixtures.
- Support existing products in manufacturing and field settings through troubleshooting, system diagnosis, and root cause analysis leading to corrective actions with cross functional teams.
- Collaborate effectively with crossfunctional teams including systems, software, firmware, manufacturing, service, and quality to support product development and ongoing operations.
- Ensure designs meet applicable regulatory and safety requirements, partnering with quality and regulatory teams as needed.
Support manufacturing, service, and field activities, including domestic and international travel as required.
Required Skills & Education:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of professional experience, including serving as design lead on 3 or more projects.
- Direct experience designing and integrating mechanical systems, including enclosures, frames, structural components, thermal management solutions, and electromechanical packaging.
- End to end ownership of mechanical subsystems, including CAD layouts, component geometry, material selection, detailed drawings, finishes, and release to manufacturing.
- Demonstrated experience designing components using common manufacturing processes, such as sheet metal fabrication, machined parts, castings, injection molding, thermoforming, and composite materials.
- Ability to apply ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standards at a minimum of the 2009 revision level with demonstrated ability to create drawings, review supplier documentation and inspection plans, and resolve tolerance related fit and function.
- Experience applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Serviceability (DFS) principles, including tolerance stack up analysis, assembly sequencing, and cost, yield, and reliability tradeoffs.
- Hands on prototyping and troubleshooting experience, including fit/form/function evaluations, root cause analysis, and development of mechanical test fixtures.
- Experience implementing designs in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated system level thinking with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a cross functional team environment.
- Experience with 3D CAD software required; ability and willingness to learn and use Siemens NX as part of the role.
- Must be able to travel domestically and internationally should the need arise.
Desired Skills:
- Implementation experience with electromechanical mechanisms including but not limited to; ground contact drive systems, lead screws, linear slides, cams, bearing selection and use, counterbalance design, etc.
- Experience developing and reviewing intellectual property which may include Invention disclosures, prior art reviews and collaboration with legal or IP teams during patent development
- Familiar with writing testable component and subsystem requirements
- Familiarity with IMU, and LiDAR devices and use within consumer goods.
- Experience with 3D printing systems for prototyping, parts prep, and build initialization.
- Basic knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical FEA.
- Familiarity with medical electrical equipment safety standards, including IEC 606011, IEC 60601254, and IEC 60601243
- Knowledge of general radiography and fluoroscopy-theory of operation and key system components.
- Familiarity with methods for design of calibration, alignment, build fixture tooling.
- Familiar with concepts of exact constraint design.
- Awareness of Sparx Enterprise Architect and Prolaborate system engineering SW.
