Overview

Join the Analysis team within Distribution Engineerings System Design department and help build the electric grid of the future. The department is seeking a highly motivated and versatile Associate Engineer (1H) to support system analysis, design, standards, high-tension systems, renewable and distributed generation interconnections, and engineering applications. The Analysis team focuses on technical analysis, standards, and special projects, and is looking for self-starters who demonstrate accountability, adaptability to multiple priorities, sound business judgment, and strong communication skills. Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Assist Engineers, Senior Engineers, or other Engineering & Planning personnel in the performance of their tasks as necessary to accomplish the objectives of the Organization.
  • Maintains and continues to develop technical expertise and job knowledge in assigned discipline area.
  • Conduct engineering studies, including utilizing load flow tools (e.g. PVL, SINCAL, CYME) to analyze and propose potential solutions, technical guidance, and recommendations
  • Assist in contingency analysis of electric system as a result of electric distribution events.
  • Review, prepare, and support in the development and/or update of technical specifications and procedures for internal and/or external stakeholders as required, as well as reviewing waiver requests.
  • Read and understand technical papers, electrical schematics, protection and control systems, layouts, and other technical documentation.
  • Visit field locations, substations, or other company locations to enhance understanding of the distribution system and distribution system equipment as well as to improve specification compliance.
  • Attend meetings with other departments, contractors, consultants, and representatives from inside and outside the Company.
  • Comfortable in presenting to internal stakeholders, various levels of management, and external organizations
  • Collaborate cross functionally with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist Engineers and Senior Engineers in communicating with Information Technology (IT) to specify and develop necessary computing technology tools or applications for the engineering teams.
  • Perform other engineering or PSC mandated assignments and projects as required.
  • Remain up to date with advancement in technology and/or equipment, and support development of new equipment and/or designs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced dynamic environment, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
  • Must be flexible, and be capable of exercising independent judgment
  • Identify and take ownership of issues related to technical matters and/or process improvements
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers. Support the Distribution Engineering Situation Room as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and Minimum 2 years of related work experience to include 1 year of engineering work experience
Relevant Work Experience
  • Ability to effectively interact with both internal and external customers, support staff and various levels of management Required
  • Must be flexible, and be capable of exercising independent judgment Required
  • Experience managing and prioritizing a number of complex projects and assignments Required
  • Electrical Engineering experience Required
  • Knowledge of substations, Underground Network and Overhead Electrical system Required
  • Knowledge of electrical concepts, including power systems Required
  • Experience in utilizing analytical software and load flow tools (such as Poly Voltage Load Flow, SINCAL, CAPE, and CYME TCC) in performing analysis related to power flow, system faults, and voltage regulation Preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment and industry standards related to switchgear, switches, interrupters, and transformers Preferred
  • Experience writing Engineering specifications Preferred
  • Knowledge of system design specifications Preferred
  • Working Knowledge of Relay Protection and Control Systems, and experience performing relay coordination studies Preferred
  • Ability to interpret electrical diagrams and customer site plans Preferred
  • Knowledge of distributed generation interconnection designs Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Other: Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment as required, during visits to various work sites.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts and 12-hour shifts, as needed.
