What to Expect

Tesla's Megapack (BESS) Deployment team is responsible for sourcing critical Balance of Plant Equipment such as medium-voltage and power transformers, switchgear, breakers, E-Houses, and EPC (civil and electrical) labor for utility-scale energy storage projects. This position involves deep engagement with the global utility and renewable energy supply chain ecosystem, traveling to suppliers across different regions, and making critical decisions that directly impact grid-scale energy storage deployments. The goal: delivering on-time quantities of high-quality electrical infrastructure components to enable rapid deployment of utility-scale Megapack BESS installations while coordinating with project management and construction schedules to optimize the right labor and equipment in the right place at the right time.


What You'll Do
  • Negotiate optimal terms for medium-voltage equipment, power transformers, switchgear systems, and specialized electrical labor. Understand trade-offs between cost, quality, and delivery timelines specific to utility-grade electrical components and grid requirements

  • Secure long-term supply agreements that support Tesla's aggressive utility-scale energy storage deployment schedule
  • Develop and leverage in-depth should-cost analysis to achieve the lowest total cost of ownership
  • Leverage knowledge of utility procurement cycles and renewable project timelines to Tesla's strategic advantage
  • Draft and manage contracts for electrical equipment procurement and EPC services, including technical specifications for utility-grade components. (MSA and EPC agreement experience is preferred)
  • Develop and maintain a strategic supply base for critical electrical components and create competitive supplier networks
  • Identify high-potential suppliers with proven track records in utility-scale projects, grid interconnection, and renewable energy installations
  • Develop KPIs for electrical equipment suppliers and EPC contractors with a focus on quality standards required for grid interconnection
  • Perform value analysis considering the total cost of ownership for utility-scale electrical infrastructure
  • Conduct spend segmentation of assigned categories to identify tail spend and cost savings opportunities across the enterprise

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in utility procurement, renewable energy project sourcing, electrical equipment supply chain, or utility EPC management

  • Direct experience sourcing medium-voltage transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, E-Houses, and/or EPC services

  • Experience collaborating with various engineering, customer, and regional requirements at both project and program levels

  • Understanding of electrical equipment manufacturing timelines and utility procurement processes

  • Ability to solve complex problems and make quick decisions in fast-moving renewable energy project environments

  • Willingness to travel (10+%) to electrical equipment manufacturing facilities and utility project sites

  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, and large-scale ERP platforms, particularly purchasing ERPs

  • Deep understanding of electrical infrastructure supply chains and utility market dynamics
