OVERVIEW

The Trailer Spotman is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers within the yard to support daily warehouse and transportation operations. This role ensures that trailers are properly positioned for loading and unloading, maintains yard organization, and helps keep freight flowing smoothly through the facility.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Move trailers between yard locations, loading docks, and staging areas using a yard truck/spotter truck.
  • Back trailers into dock doors with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Hook and unhook trailers, including connecting air lines and adjusting landing gear.
  • Conduct basic trailer inspections (lights, tires, doors, seals) before movement.
  • Maintain an organized yard layout and ensure clear traffic flow.
  • Communicate with warehouse teams, dispatch, and drivers to coordinate trailer placement.
  • Track trailer movements using yard logs, handheld devices, or yard management systems.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines at all times.


Qualifications

  • Experience operating a yard truck, spotter truck, or tractortrailer preferred.
  • Strong trailerbacking and maneuvering skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Reliable, safetyfocused, and able to work in a fastpaced environment.
  • Basic mechanical understanding of trailers and yard equipment.
  • CDL is preferred but may not be required depending on company policy.
  • Ability to climb, bend, lift, and work on your feet throughout the shift.


Work Environment

  • Outdoor yard setting with exposure to weather, noise, and heavy equipment.
  • Frequent climbing in and out of yard trucks.
  • Fastpaced logistics environment requiring strong situational awareness.
