Job Description:
Operator
Huntsman is seeking an Operator supporting the Performance Products Division located in HATC. This position will report to the BSO Technology Manager and will work a night shift schedule.
Job Scope
The Operator is responsible for safely and accurately operating bench-scale process equipment to support research and development activities. This role plays a critical part in enabling the development of new products and capabilities while ensuring strict adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standards. The position involves hands-on operation of chemical processing equipment and oversight of safety in the operational area while handling hazardous materials.
In summary, as the Operator, you will:
Safely set up, operate, monitor, and adapt bench-scale units including distillation systems and batch or continuous reactors Perform basic laboratory analyses, collect product samples, and adjust operating conditions based on results and customer requirements Handle hazardous, toxic, caustic, acidic, and flammable chemicals in compliance with established safety procedures Conduct routine equipment modifications such as catalyst changes, tank changes, filter replacements, and glassware setup Operate, control, and regulate process variables including temperature, pressure, levels, and flow rates, including use of PLC systems when required Perform basic equipment maintenance activities in accordance with defined requirements Maintain accurate electronic lab notebook entries, shift turnover logs, operating data, work orders, and safe work permits Ensure proper housekeeping to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment Support safety oversight in the operations area to ensure the safety of all individuals in the facility Train, guide, and assist other personnel as assigned Participate in required training programs and Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives Support Huntsman company goals through collaboration and additional assigned duties
Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications
Education required
High school diploma or equivalent Associate's degree in Chemical Technology, Applied Chemistry, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience in lieu of formal education
Experience
Skills and Knowledge
Strong ability to recognize abnormal or unsafe conditions and take immediate corrective action High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple coordinated processes simultaneously Strong organizational and documentation skills Proficiency with internet applications, email, and Microsoft Office programs Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds Flexibility and adaptability to changing instructions, priorities, and operational needs Strong commitment to safety and compliance with established procedures
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with hazardous chemicals in a research, laboratory, or manufacturing environment Prior experience with PLC-controlled systems Experience training or mentoring other operators or technicians
Working Environment
Work involves exposure to hazardous chemicals, high-pressure equipment, and industrial processing environments Requires use of personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection Position requires physical activity such as lifting materials, climbing stairs and ladders, and walking on uneven surfaces Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
