Job Summary

#CA-DS

The Project Standards Integration Specialist supports the Facilities Planning and Development Division (FP&D) by leading efforts to standardize and enhance campus guidelines and standards as they relate to project designs. This role is responsible for UC Davis Health's Design Guidelines and Standards and ensuring their application across UC Davis Health's capital and non-capital project portfolio.

This position will also be responsible for leading and administering UC Davis Health's milestone review process as a duty under the supervision of the Campus Architect. Ensure consistency, compliance, and quality across all capital and non-capital projects. This individual shall have a highly developed ability to consult with and advise our project teams, content experts, directors and senior leaders, providing advice on best practices and interpretation of contracts and statutes related to design, construction, The Long-Range Development Plan (LRDP), and the UCDH Campus. Exercises expert judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results, and may provide guidance to other functional managers, project leaders, and/or analysts. The position also requires an ability to prioritize cost and affordability in the DGL and Standards, using UCDH's Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) agreements. These strategic sourcing agreements must align with our DGL and Standards.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.

  • License to practice architecture in the State of California.
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field
  • Experience with project documentation standards and construction workflows
  • Extensive experience in managing the integration of design standards and construction protocols into project delivery processes, including the development of scoping documents, cost estimates, and project budgets.
  • Comprehensive understanding of building systems and design principles, with specialized expertise in the implementation and enforcement of institutional design guidelines and project management manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate regulatory and organizational standards into practical tools, workflows, and documentation that guide project teams throughout the planning, design, and construction lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to assess project documentation for compliance with established guidelines and to recommend corrective actions or alternative approaches to ensure alignment with institutional goals.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, planners, and compliance officers.
  • Skilled in identifying gaps in adherence to standards and facilitating resolution through training, documentation updates, and process improvements.
  • Advanced proficiency in project review platforms such as Bluebeam, and in data analysis tools including Microsoft Excel, with the ability to generate actionable insights and compliance reports.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to convey complex technical information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Expert knowledge of planning, design and construction procedures, industry practices, and / or highly developed expertise in a highly specialized and critical discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Construction Manager (thru CMAA), Design Build Professional (thru DBIA), Project Management Professional (thru PMI), or equivalent.
  • Advanced degree in architecture, engineering, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Experience and knowledge of designing and constructing medical care capital facilities subject to California Building and Fires Codes requirements; and the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAi) standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of University and Campus Policies, procedures, practices and resources to direct project processes and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of current project and construction costs and experience with industry standard cost estimating methods and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, project management and document management database programs. Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Project, Outlook and Windows operating environment.

Department Overview

FP&D Division mission is the implementation of UC Davis Health's Capital Improvement Program in keeping with the Long-Range Development Plan (LRDP). This includes the authority and responsibility to develop processes and tools and enforcement of and for capital improvement planning, design, and construction projects for in-patient, outpatient healthcare and education purposes. This position plays a key role in ensuring project delivery excellence through standardized guidelines and standards.
