Division of Plant Science & Technology

Job Description

The Division of Plant Science and Technology is seeking a Scientist to join its Interdisciplinary Plant Group (IPG). The IPG is a community of MU faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, and professionals who are pursuing novel, creative and transformative ideas in the field of plant biology. This position will conduct independent research to investigate how sorghum responds to high light and heat stress to control its physiology.

Job Description
The candidate will work as part of a multi-institution team to investigate the control of photosynthesis and carbohydrate partitioning in sorghum grown in the field.

Key Responsibilities
The person will be responsible for three different experimental aims:

  • Quantifying sucrose flux using radioactive isotopes
  • Perform metabolomic analysis of sorghum leaves and follow-up on lead metabolites to validate.
  • Build constructs for gene editing candidate genes and prepare for transformation into plants.
  • Characterize transgenic sorghum plants to determine the function of the candidate genes.

Additional Expectations
The Scientist is expected to work independently and as part of a large multi-disciplinary team, supervise undergraduate students in research, participate in project meetings, write regular reports and drafts for scientific publications, and give oral presentations at scientific conferences and perform other job related duties as assigned.

Shift

Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

A PhD in relevant discipline with postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,915.20 - $62,000.00 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
