POSITION TITLE: Senior HPC (High-Performance Computing) Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior HPC Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of HPC (high performance computing and cloud infrastructure at Scripps Research Institute.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:



  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud infrastructure for Scripps' research computing needs
  • Collaborate with labs and faculties to understand their computing needs and provide appropriate solutions
  • Implement and optimize on-premise and cloud storage and workloads
  • Work closely with other HPC and IT Services team members to ensure compatibility, scalability, and security
  • Provide technical support and training to users on the HPC systems
  • Stay abreast of HPC, cloud, and AI technologies and recommend thoughtful solutions
  • Develop and maintain documentation of systems and processes
  • Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.


            REQUIREMENTS:



            • BA/BS in computer science or related field desirable but not required.
            • 5+ years working in a senior engineer role in an HPC research computing environment
            • Advanced knowledge of one or more scripting languages such as Python, Bash
            • Demonstrated experience in designing compute infrastructure in one or more AWS/Azure/GCP environments.
            • Experience in designing and developing AI compute infrastructure
            • Hands-on experience with job scheduling, orchestration and automated configuration tools, distributed storage systems and shared file systems, and container technologies (Singularity, Kubernetes for HPC, Ansible)
            • Knowledge of APIs, web services, and identity access management
            • Experience with SQL a plus

            • While subject to change based on business needs, this is an on-campus position requiring a minimum of 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.





                    COMPENSATION:

                    The expected hiring range for this position is $135,000 to $150,000/annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
