Job Description

This position is responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels to support the sales forecast, at the lowest total cost, while meeting or exceeding required inventory turns. Additionally, this position places and expedites purchase orders, schedules materials and production processes to ensure on-time delivery, serves as the company contact for subcontractors/vendors, and produces and maintains local reports for management.




  • Ensures revised supplier costs are documented and communicated via costing spreadsheet
  • Coordinates with transportation for internal and external product with appropriate Traffic personnel and arranges transportation for purchases
  • Conducts continual review of backlog, machine scheduling, subcontractor scheduling and customer delivery requirements
  • Conducts material purchasing for carbon and specialty metals
  • Expedites, contracts, and settles orders as needed
  • Coordinates administration of consignment material with outside processors
  • Reviews inventory through appropriate reports, customer forecasts, open orders and coordinates with mills according to lead times, pricing, availability and payables
  • Conducts placement and follow-up on spot orders
  • Maintains purchase plan report and delivery dates on open order report
  • Works with outside vendors to quote processes not currently available in-house
  • Conducts placement/follow-up of outside processing ordered (ie, shear, slit, coating, pickling)
  • Ensures that all purchases must comply with Spec and required terms using third party certified inspection companies or own inspection procedures as needed
  • Proposes complete sourcing strategy on the relevant opportunities that appear from producers and suppliers
  • Continuously verifies, inspects, and analyzes new prospected suppliers for approval, and searching for competitive new supply options
  • Keeps up with the market trend at all times and understands the volatility of the market and the momentum for any decision making



Qualifications:



  • Skilled at clerical/administrative tasks
  • Knowledge of ISO requirements
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, organizing, strategic planning, prioritizing and multi-tasking skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel required; Olympic production control systems knowledge preferred
  • Understanding and experience on general and possible contractual terms related to steel purchasing
  • Experience with Stainless Steel preferred
  • HS Diploma and/or the equivalent with work experience
