Position Summary The Director of Logistics & Transportation is responsible for driving end-to-end excellence, efficiency, and scalability balancing cost with customer satisfaction. This role combines strategic and tactical oversight of logistics operations. The leader will define, implement, and standardize supply chain processes logistics, and distribution-ensuring alignment with business objectives, ERP systems, and digital transformation initiatives. The leader partners closely with Planning, Operations, Procurement, and Sales teams to optimize end-to-end product flow and drive continuous improvement and optimize transportation performance, cost, safety, compliance, and service through strategic carrier management, technology optimization, and network design initiatives to support business growth through scalable logistics solutions. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for logistics and transportation improvement, ensuring alignment with company goals. Lead the design and implementation of standardized, scalable end-to-end logistics and transportation processes across Apogee Architectural Metals. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, cost, and customer delivery performance. Champion the adoption of digital tools and analytics to enhance visibility, automation, and decision-making. Lead and develop a high-performing logistics and transportation organization across multiple plants to ensure material flow across multiple plants. Establish governance structures to sustain process ownership, measurement, and continuous improvement.
Logistics Management (Inbound & Outbound)
Oversee global and domestic inbound material flow ensuring reliable supply to manufacturing sites. Direct outbound logistics operations to ensure on-time, accurate, and cost-effective customer delivery. Establish long-term partnerships with carriers, 3PLs, and distribution providers to ensure network flexibility and performance. Optimize transportation networks, carrier management, warehousing, and distribution strategies. Ensure compliance with all trade, safety, and environmental regulations across logistics operations. Manage fleet operations (if applicable) including maintenance, utilization, and driver performance. Promote a strong culture of safety and operational excellence throughout all logistics activities.
Performance Management and Compliance
Establish and monitor KPIs across logistics and supply chain business processes. Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for service, quality, and cost variances. Build organizational capability through coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams. Ensure compliance with corporate policies, industry regulations, and quality standards. Oversee the creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for logistics & transportation processes.
Leadership & Collaboration
Collaborate with IT to ensure process integration within ERP, APS, and other digital supply chain tools. Drive cross-functional change initiatives to improve service levels, reduce cost, and enhance operational visibility. Foster collaboration with Operations, Planning, Strategic Sourcing, Tactical Procurement, Inventory, Logistics and other adjacent functional groups to align logistics strategies and supply chain business processes to build organizational capability for succession, scalability, and future growth. Partner with supply chain and adjacent functions to manage transitions, train teams, and embed a culture of process ownership and accountability. Serve as an escalation level for the production line for supply constraints impacting line flow and on time delivery for customers. Support digital transformation, automation, and analytics enablement across the supply chain.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Engineering, Business, or related field required; Master's degree strongly preferred. Professional certifications: CPSM, CSCP, CPIM, CLTD or Lean Six Sigma strongly preferred.
Experience
10+ years of progressive experience in supply chain, logistics or related experience, ideally in manufacturing. Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, procurement analytics, and material flow processes. Proven success in leading large-scale process improvement or transformation initiatives across multiple sites or business units. Experience in managing large-scale distribution, transportation and logistics networks. Proven track record of leading teams through change and driving measurable business results. Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving and change management skills.
