Job Summary

The State Government Affairs Analyst serves as a representative of the company across state levels. This position handles essential office operations, acts as a liaison between the company, state officials, and regulatory agencies while cultivating partnerships with third party advocacy groups. This is achieved by collaborating with a broad network of internal and external experts to gather intelligence and align organizational positions through structured meetings and organic relationship building. This position will also monitor legislative, regulatory and political activity, and be prepared to make recommendations to the government affairs team on proper courses of action.

Responsibilities

  • Track, analyze, and report on state legislative and regulatory developments, assessing their impact on company operations. This will include sharing the issues and potential/filed legislation with internal subject matter experts within DEF to help the formulation of DEF positioning on such issues.
  • Manage the tracking and reporting of political contributions, ensuring full compliance with state election laws. Prepare and file any necessary lobbying disclosure reports and maintain records of all political activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong, cooperative partnerships with government officials and key 3rd party advocates in order to effectively educate them on issues important to DEF.
  • Administrative and operational support, handle essential office operations, including scheduling high level meetings with officials, managing advocacy databases and drafting policy briefs.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • In addition to bachelor's degree, one (1) year minimum of related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • 1-5 years legislative process experience, specifically with state government
  • Previous state agency experience
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with little preparation to high-ranking government and company officials
  • Critical and analytical thinking skills
  • Understanding politics, political processes and the regulatory environment
  • External network of industry and political contacts
  • Proven experience in government relations, legislative tracking, or similar role involving state level advocacy.
  • Understanding the state policy/lawmaking process

Working Conditions

  • Requires a considerable amount of walking, stair climbing, and long periods of standing
  • Moderate in-state travel will be required (5-15%)
  • Onsite mobility classification - work will be performed at the Duke Energy Tallahassee office.
