Wastewater Supervisors are responsible for safely overseeing the wastewater system, the employees and assisting with the odor control at the landfill. This position also assists in various areas of the landfill, including operating equipment.

Responsibilities of Position:



  • Under the direction of the Landfill Manager, directs the daily activities of wastewater technicians
  • Under the direction of the Landfill Manager, performs tasks and operates equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
  • Manages wastewater technicians including hiring, scheduling work assignments, training, coaching, conducting evaluations, counseling, and managing performance/behavior with an emphasis on safety and productivity
  • Completes all documentation regarding personnel actions in a timely manner
  • Maintains the landfill to meet requirements for EPA and other inspections
  • Sets-up and maintains portable pumps for leachate and storm water control
  • Performs preventive maintenance on diesel and gas engines
  • Monitors storm water pumping to maintain stream clarity and regulatory compliance
  • Observes wastewater system and adjusts as necessary
  • Manages wastewater discharge to maximize throughput
  • Takes readings and evaluates system operations
  • Evaluates site for odors, mechanical problems, system failures, etc.
  • Safely operates vacuum truck and others as needed
  • Performs duties at the yard boxes, truck wash and wheel wash as needed
  • Professionally interacts with internal and external customers
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Supervisory Responsibility:



  • This position will manage 1-5 employees
  • This position will not oversee and direct other managers



Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:



  • Must possess the mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn facility's extensive wastewater system
  • Must possess the ability to learn to weld HDPE pipe
  • Must possess the ability to learn to operate all equipment in all necessary work areas
  • Must be dependable, a self-starter, and able to identify and perform daily operational requirements
  • Good verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with others
  • Must have a working knowledge of basic computer programs including Microsoft Office



Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:



  • 1-2 years of experience in a related work environment required
  • Previous supervisory experience is highly preferred
  • Experience welding HDPE pipe preferred



Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:



  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbs
  • Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
  • Frequently working outside
  • Occasionally working in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Frequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Frequently climbing and/or balancing
  • Frequently sitting/standing/walking



Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:



  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
