PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Remote Diagnostics and Process Engineer (RDPE) is a strategic partner to manufacturing teams, driving improvements in safety, quality, cost, and environmental performance through proactive, data-driven initiatives. This role leverages deep process knowledge and a strong professional network to identify opportunities, lead impactful analyses, and implement sustainable solutions.

Acting as a trusted extension of plant teams, the RDPE independently initiates evaluations of process and asset performance, using data systems to uncover trends and highlight potential disruptions. They guide the development of robust models and visualizations, continuously refining tools to enhance operational decision-making.

This role leads cross-functional collaboration with plant staff, regional experts, and enterprise resources to ensure insights are actionable and aligned with strategic goals. The RDPE mentors others in data interpretation and process understanding, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Close coordination with Operations, IT, and OT teams is essential to maintain and evolve the digital process that supports manufacturing excellence. The RDPE is expected to grow their influence by expanding technical capabilities, sharing expertise, and shaping how data is used to transform operations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work to enhance plant safety using digital tools and data insights
  • Live the OC safety culture
  • Engage in safety activities including training, safety observations, and safe behaviors while traveling.


Uses early warning diagnostic technology to eliminate production and process losses



  • Develops adequate process monitoring capability and warning systems to eliminate losses due to upset conditions or process deviations. Ensures useful tools are scaled across the network where applicable. Influences adoption across plants.
  • Provides daily ongoing monitoring services to plants where the team is engaged.
  • Identifies deviations from expected outputs; and acts as subject matter expert to provide recommendations and establish engineering controls to mitigate repetitive failure. The RDPE Lead will present data with clear follow up actions for the plant team to prevent future failures and check in on progress as part of root cause analysis.
  • Initiates collaboration with Subject Matter Experts, Technical Leaders, Reliability Engineers, and COE members to lead workstreams to improve equipment/process monitoring and data connections
  • Grows remote monitoring and diagnostics capacity by developing new ways to leverage tools, new ways to automate workflows, and new opportunities to monitor data at a business and enterprise level.
  • Performs data analyses as requested by plant or other business partners and presents conclusions and recommendations in a useful format. Proactively offers data analysis on known or newly identified issues.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, incorporating feedback into future communication. Uses personal experience to inform future insights, learning from other plants in the network to enhance monitoring services.
  • Perform statistical analyses and determine whether data is statistically significant
  • Cultivates a deep understanding of how data connects directly to the process and effectively uses all types of manufacturing data to inform plant decisions.


Data Accuracy and Availability



  • Ensures all data is accurate and reading accordingly. Identifies, troubleshoots and solves problems in collaboration with Data Ops, MAPS, other support teams, and external vendors
  • Act as liaison between COE members and plant personnel to assist with data needs, eliminating the need for COE or R&D personnel to leverage plant resources for data requests.
  • Develop asset data models for use in scaling services and informing contextual models in enterprise digital tools. Communicate the format and use of these models effectively.
  • Validates accuracy of new data sources and is thinking ahead to the next data needed to accomplish team goals.



Influencing in the Function



  • In partnership with Plant Operations Teams, Process Support Specialists, and Process Control Engineers, build effective work relationships to improve plant performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Provides guidance to cross functional teams for process monitoring specifications for new equipment installations or process roll outs. Ensures remote monitoring is considered for all new installations.
  • Consults with and leverages external resources on projects and programs related to manufacturing analytics
  • Identify areas of waste and ideate and execute on aligned action plans to create productivity.
  • Participate in special programs or projects that support the long-term strategic goals of the organization.
  • Identify and lead opportunities to improve the effectiveness, value, and perception of the organization.



Developing Talent and Team Engagement



  • Coaches and trains other technical persons in the effective use of manufacturing analytic systems, including other RDPEs, plant engineers, interns, and development program participants.
  • Directly leads team experiences including leading plant tours, coordinating project work, coaching on professional development, and technical training in both process and tools for early career or new to OC resources.
  • Coach and mentor plant personnel network-wide on effective use of data tools, established dashboards, automatic alerting, anomaly detection, and more.
  • Minimize relearning and jump start new personnel onboarding with best practice sharing, access to established digital tools, and a service mindset.
  • Collaborate heavily with business COE, Manufacturing Intelligence team, Data Ops team, and others as part of continuous improvement mindset
  • Invest in personal growth and development, clearly focused on self-learning.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, data analytics, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience, or 3+ years of experience in the glass industry
