Apprentice Tool & Die Maker

Penn United Technologies, Inc. is now accepting applications for a full-time Apprentice Tool & Die Maker to join our Die Maintenance team. The right candidate will possess strong mechanical and problem-solving skills, thrive in working in a team-focused manufacturing atmosphere, and is able to participate in apprenticeship classes in order to learn the skills and meet the requirements to become a Journeyworker Tool & Die Maker.

Responsibilities:



  • Learn, according to applicable apprenticeship standards, the knowledge and skills necessary to receive state certified Journeyworker Tool & Die Maker papers upon completion of program.
  • Learn to properly maintain and repair tools for progressive stamping dies; learn to change over tools as needed and assist in problem solving
  • Read prints & job orders to determine dimensions and machine set-up
  • Set-up and operate various machining equipment such as manual and CNC lathes, mills and surface grinders in order to machine or grind components to precise customer specifications.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices (such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc..)
  • Attend on-site apprenticeship classes in addition to on-the-job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor, including die maintenance and die assembly responsibilities.

Qualifications

Qualifications:



  • Excellent math & mechanical skills/aptitude
  • Ability & desire to do precision work
  • Previous experience with lathes or mills is a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading, and precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers preferred, but not required
  • Candidates must be able to lift up to a minimum of 40 lbs., and stand 8-10 hours per day
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to safety and quality
  • Ability to regularly attend required, on-site apprenticeship classes
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts of daylight, afternoon and midnight
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Preferred: Some vocational-technical machining training
