Position Summary
The Research Assistant (RA) is a full-time position. The position will provide general support for research projects primarily focused on cancer epidemiology research that will improve the lives of the citizens of North Carolina. The objective of the Population Group at Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is to uncover the reasons of cancer diagnosis and disparities in North Carolina's population. The Population Group enrolls and conducts cancer research participants in all 100 counties in North Carolina.

This position will assist in day-to-day research study activities in support of ongoing research studies being completed within the Population Group. Specific work may include assisting with collection of telephone, mail-in, electronic participant survey data; data tracking and documentation; management of participant informed consent, medical record release forms, and tumor block consents; monitoring protocols related to medical records data collection; and reporting results to the supervisor and the larger group. The RA may also assist with tracking of medical records for medical record abstraction as time allows. Specifically, this may include contacting hospitals and medical facilities by telephone to explain study needs and request medical records. It may also include telephone contact with potential study participants to explain study participation, answer questions; and schedule interview appointments; also, it may assist with the collection of biological specimens.

Other specific activities may include preparing participant mailings through mail merge and data entry of participant data collection forms.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Exceptionally strong organizational and time management skills.

* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are necessary to obtain and exchange information with a variety of individuals both within the study team and with other stakeholders (for example, collaborating hospitals/medical facilities or study participants).

* Ability to work well independently and with others in a research team setting is critical to ensure the aims of the research studies are met in accordance with centralized study protocols and procedures.

* Ability to complete detailed work in an accurate and efficient manner.

* Possess good investigative/analytical skills to identify potential issues and assist with problem solving.

* Proficiency with Office 365/Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Previous research experience in epidemiologic cancer research with human subjects, medical record data collection, and/or data management systems.
